Who will he replace in the middle order ?

I'm tempted to rest Rahane and play Gill. I know it wont be a popular opinion now considering Rahanes  exceptionally captaincy but he hasnt scored enough runs in his last 40 tests and is still the weak link in the batting lineup. Or maybe we can play just 2 spinners and 2 quicks and play the extra batter.

Won't happen in reality.

5 bowlers have always served us well ... when a couple among them can bat too.

if my wish was the command to selectors ..i would never select Pujara at least in India as he plays for a draw.

it seems washie/jaddu one of them will always be in our team and Hardik/shardul one of these will always be in our team as all these 4 are All rounders.

since they have picked Hardik, i think it is clear that he would be bowling else he would not have been picked.

good to see avesh khan among net bowlers.

seems shardul ishant and Bumrah will play in the 11 with washie and ashwin too as jadoo is not fit.

First advice, SET UP SPIN TRAPS AND GO FOR WHITEWASH, with WTC in mind, it should be jais.

No use of winning white washing england by preparing spin tracks.

its very boring , secondly creates a wrong image about us. when we go abroad our batsman find it difficult to play quality Pace.

we need to prepare ourselves to beat other countries on their Pitches /soil. Unke ghar Ja ke Marro.

No one appreciates a Series win on their own Soil.

even a second string Indian Side can beat foreign teams on Spinning tracks and I am most serious about this statement.

In WTC context, it is ok

We are going to miss Jaddu. He is one of our best spinners in India and overseas.

I dont think so, Washie is as good as or even better than Jaddo in bowling and Batting. yep jaddu is a better fielder than washie.

washie is a very good batsman and a spinner who bowls at 92 to 97K, batsman are confused as they are not sure whether he is a Spinner or a trundling Pacer.

Jadoo is good too But washie is no Less.

washie played so well that we never missed Jaddoo.

I like multi dimensional attack. Both Ashwin and washi are off spinners. Need someone to take it away from Batsman.

My xi would be

  1. Rohit.  (his average at home is just too good also big match player)
  2. Gill       (great talent and great form, impossible to not pick in first xi)
  3. Pujara (even tho he gets heat for playing slow but dependable bat)
  4. Kohli    (okay captain, one of the best test batsman)
  5. Rahane(won us a imp test with 100,also VC,won't be dropped)
  6. Pant     (great talent, great form, no questions asked, need work on keeping)
  7. Sundar (reliable bat with good  bowling in aus)
  8. Ashwin (with his variations and ocassional batting wonders, a must)
  9. Axar     (though kuldeep is fav, axar may play ahead to achieve deep batting)
  10. Ishant. (default pick, was our best test bowler till recently, must be given chance)
  11. Bumrah(default pick)
  • Now 7,8,9 depend on pitch and conditions mostly we ll go for 3 spinners 2 pacers.
  • But for green pitch we'll go with 3 pacers 2 spinners
  • Ash,sundar,bumrah,ishant is must if 3 spinners axar, if 3 pacers shardul/siraj)
  • Kuldeep might miss given india is looking for deep batting.
  • Kl rahul backup in place of pant or if both openers injured ,mayank opening backup.
  • Pandya even though good bat doesnt fit as he wont be bowling also no need risk injury.
  • Saha most likely will sit out and higher chances KL can be given gloves over saha or may be not.

that is extreme overkill on the batting side,we can afford to play Kuldeep if we play Sundar and Ashwin.

My take:

I am assuming Ashwin and Bumrah plays, and Pujara is rested at least one match due to his million injuries. Also I doubt that Hardik is ready to bowl 10+ overs in a day as an allrounder, since he was explicitly forbidden from doing that as recently as 6-8 weeks ago. Therefore he has been picked in the side as a specialist batsman who might be able to chip in a few overs at most (i.e. NOT a true 5th bowler who might contribute 10-20 overs over the course of an innings). To me, he cannot bat at 5 and if he bats at 6 with a WK at 7, that leaves us with only 4 bowlers which Kohli dislikes. As a result, SDP doesn't make my preferred XI.

Normally team management seems to like Jadeja at 7 at home as a true allrounder and I think Sundar's poise and ability shown in this last match has won him that spot while Jadeja is out. Saha is not a good enough batsman to be at 6 (and Sundar at 6 is a bit too risky) so Pant stays as keeper even though we are going to be in India. It would be a shame anyway if Pant wasn't in the XI after his heroics at SCG and Gabba.

1. Rohit

2. Gill

3. Pujara (Agarwal or Rahul if Pujara is rested)

4. Kohli

5. Rahane

6. Pant

7. Sundar

8. Ashwin

9. Ishant

10. Kuldeep/Siraj depending on if we want 2 front line seamers or 3

11. Bumrah

England will have no chance of handling Ashwin and Kuldeep. And in home conditions this batting lineup will pile up runs against anyone. India wins by at least 3-1

home dominance is appreciated everywhere. you start winning from home. its not ok to lose at home. We need to prepare tracks that arent too bouncy nor too spin friendly. just a bit of both like we always do post 2016 and thats enough to smash all teams.

Fun fact - in their last 20 tests, Rahane has scored almost the same number runs as Kohli or Pujara!

just one complaint about india. i want us to show the same intensity we display vs aussies against poms and kiwis as well when we tour them.

We have to defeat SA in SA this December.

Golden opportunity, given their team and ours.

Good performances in England this year is not a given as we are very susceptible against swing bowling these days.

In the last 5+ years our pacers have taken over 65% of the wickets at home. All of our main pacers, yadav, ishant, shami average below 25. Even Bhuvi averages 26 we have lost one single match in last 11 series (won 25, 6 draws mostly because of weather)

Why would we change the strategy and help the opposition with spin traps when we have been dominating with pace?
