You might have forgotten him after this series, but if he works out the chinks in his armor, Prithvi Shaw could be a destructive LOI opener for India

Jaiswal might not have scored much last year but looked the best among U19 openers in pitches with help to bowlers .Low scores , High scores these will happen as also some

weaknesses come to the fore . If one has skills and  the focus to reach high , probability of coming good for a batsman is high .

Even Dravid was hailed as a future great at 17 but  used to make one BIG score and then flop for some time for almost 2-3 years early in his teens.

Need to have patience . In any case very very difficult to get to Indian team for couple of years . Mumbai TM is doing a good thing by being patient with him.

We should be happy if they  get chance in A matches as of now. That should give us a better idea who can make it.

Issue is we dont need a FTB player which Dhawan was. We need players for SENA. No use scoring thumping hundreds in india and then going to SENA and getting exposed by Boult Anderson Cummins Rabada.. the way India is flexing its muscles about tours we will literally only have SENA home and away tours.. BD WIndies Srilanka we will play A sides..

Right now Prithvi Shaw is more valuable for ODI format.. he should get a decent chance

Shaw is an opener. So he has to fight with potentially 4 players for this slot in odi/t20

Rahul

Dhawan

Padikkal

Mayank

maybe even Pant

So it wont be easy

once we decide to move on with Dhawan he will be backup for Rohit/Rahul

I thought Shaw was better placed than even Gill in terms of talent and strokeplay for Tests

But then, there is something called as Game/Situation Awareness , while you are fielding or just being in the game...Shaw lacks a bit of class in this department

Besides Gill has shown a  lot more depth to his game, and will continue to keep Shaw at bay in the Tests

The batting in the white ball games is a bit crowded at the top , at the moment

Dont write him off yet, Im a fan of his strokeplay..he needs a bangla/lanka kind of series to come back to form...and I hope he does come back at some stage sooner than later

Dhawan is still a very good ODI player.. Unless his form goes really south, don't see him being out just yet

Dhawan is not going to last 2023 world cup. We need to plan for the future. Else we will face the same situation we had during 2019 WC.

Why would Rahul open now that he's easing himself into a number 4 player with plenty of success?

I thought Iyer was designated for no 4 slot now in ODIs? Anyways expect Pant to be back in ODis and play at no 5... Which will free up Rahul to open.

Where would Shaw fit currently? If Dhawan is phased out, Rahul will open with Rohit..he needs to wait for Rohit to retire it seems

Rahul is a very good No.5 in ODIs and provides the much needed depth to our ODI line up. Should stay there.

One of the biggest reasons why young Dhoni succeeded as an ODI captain was because he broke the Indian trend of crowding the top order with the best batters. He batted at No.6 and lengthened the batting. And he used Yuvi and Raina in the lower middle order too.

Old Dhoni and Jadhav again made us top heavy and brought back the Dolly Parton effect.

Rahul at 5 and Hardik at 6 is what we need in ODIs.
