You might have forgotten him after this series, but if he works out the chinks in his armor, Prithvi Shaw could be a destructive LOI opener for India

Lot of people suggesting Pant as opener in ODIs but there's another player nobody is talking about right now because he had a bad series, and that's Prithvi Shaw.

There's obvious technical deficiencies in his game and maybe even attitude problems or fitness problems that he isn't working on, but if he keeps his head screwed on straight, he could be a dangerous LOI opener capable of giving the team quick starts.

India is spoilt for choices when it comes to the opening position, but when you look at the next crop of openers at the domestic level to replace Dhawan and Sharma, none score at the clip that Shaw does.

He needs to work on his game and work on himself, but there's huge potential there and we must not forget that because of this series.

His poor fielding and fitness would affect us in LOIs. I would like someone like Rituraj Gaekwad to step-up and take the mantle from Sharma.

Shaw needs a proper mentor -someone like Praveen Amre, Abhishek Nayar or Amol Majumdar. The mentor will keep him focussed, fine-tune his technique and most importantly get him to be fitter. He is only 21 and has lots of time to correct things and make a stronger comeback to the national side. Along with Gill, Pant and Sundar - all of them in the 21-23 age range, he will be a key player for us across the three formats in the next 10-15 years.

lot more things to work upon

- Fitness

- weaknesses already exploited by bowlers

- Running

- Catching

-  control over the shots - hitting too many balls in the air without control.

Needs a big effort from his side first , then a good mentor who can change the way he bats to better results .

Let him play whole of this season in domestic , get his ass burned at NCA during off season .

He should be considered only post ENG series if we see a better Shaw by then  but need to help him out , work out a plan and iron out weaknesses.

I hope the selectors & TM makes looks for  talented players who can be impact players suited for each format and encourage them by keeping them in the tam of 15 of that format.

I still feel Shaw ,Samson ,SKY ,Ishan ,Padikkal will come good if you start giving chances in short format .  Let it start at A level , let them get confidence and then come to India side as  confident batters.

Time to move away from Dhawan , Pandey.

His problem is his attitude. Lackadaisical. Thats the issue. He actually might not have been dropped if he had taken labu s catch. The way he dropped it, it summed up his attitude and twitter went ballistic. It didnt also help he got out end of second day. Instead if he would have scored 4 as he did on 3rd day ie day of massacre people would have forgiven him. He absolutely needs to be fit.. with padikkal in line and yashahswi jaiswal waiting it can be a long road for him.

To be honest, that's already happening. Most of these guys play for India 'A'. It's upto those guys to score big runs so that they cannot be ignored. You cannot make it to the national team with average numbers. You need to make the selectors stand up and take notice.

They're not going to get an India cap unless a lot of the main players are rested. Maybe we should play Zimbabwe, Ireland, Afghanistan etc. more.

We did play tests vs Afghanistan and BD. Our captain courageous chose to play the strongest team, excuse being those tests mattered for WTC. When we toured WI after the WC< captain courageous again couldn't resist the temptation of some cheap runs and played all the matches. Ditto with SL.

Kohli, Sharma, Dhawan had no business being in the squad to West Indies. They should have been force rested by the board.

West Indies, Sri Lanka. Bangladesh are the teams you play your 'B' team against.
