Punjab will continue to run its water table into the ground growing unwanted paddy and wheat. Middlemen continue their zamindari of the Mandis. And farmers ultimately can continue a system that has not worked for them over the past 80 yrs. Great job! Look at China a country known for Human rights violations but still provide subsidy of 212 billion dollars. The question is why? Why just they don't snatch land from small farmers and give their land to big farmers which mass produce food cheaply . It is because they too are afraid that large number of farmers will bring another in revolution. So they choose subsidy. Agriculture in India employ around 20 crores . Total subsidy provided by central and state government is 2 lakh 10 thousand crores . This basically means 10000 per head annually . He said he can only grow sugar. I asked why. He said that is what this soil allows. Such is the level of Jahalat of small farmers who are held captive by large farmers and middlemen. Lets not forget. These middlemen and their political operative have pulled off the most elaborate stunt, bringing in Rihanna, Meena Harris, Greta Thunberg and countless other stars. No sector is better than other, besides there are so many grains which we still import for better quality. Why do only farmers feel subsidies and free handout is their right. If they feel farming is not working out they can try something else. Just like any other business group does. Just because food is essential commodities they can't take nation hostage for free subsidies for an year. tomorrow if doctors go on strike for 2-3 month for some unwanted demand amid corona delta like wave we can't imagine the mahem which it will create.
