Coz rank turners and green mambsa are like lotteries. Such pitches can make someones like michael clarke and stuart binny unplayable. We have dug that hole for ourself in past

Only once, against Swann & Panesar, different beasts altogether. That batting line up had Pietersen, Cook, Prior, Trott, Ian Bell, the current England line up just has Root.

Plus Ashwin was a different bowler back then, and that was India's weakest bowling attack. Bhajji bowling darts and Zaheer's medium pace!

Yes we have & that's why I said pick better players of spin.  Flat tracks are a lottery as well as toss more or less decides the result.

Eng won't collapse like Saffers did on sporting pitches..  And heck Root may win another toss & seal our fate.

We prepared turners vs SA 2015 & Aus 2017 & we did win the series both times

We prepared sporty & flatbeds vs SL in 2018 & they came back with a respectable 1-0 defeat.

Considering the match is in Chennai again I suspect we may opt for a Turner.  I wish it was Hyderabad as it is best Test pitch in the whole country.

Rahane will stay in the team as batsman because of the positive PR generated during Aus tour for his captaincy.

Kohli will stay on as captain because of the years of stat building and PR exercises generated because of his batting.

Its not because of Kohli's batting, its because he is really really powerful with all the sponsors and backing, he is literally worth more than double the entire team combined to advertisers. Which is why another young star rising is a threat to him

And its always batsmen, there has never been a superstar bowler in India like Sachin, Dhoni, Kohli. So no young batsmen will be allowed to rise and shine

And Rahane stays because, with his personality, he is not a threat to Kohli, even Rohit Sharma would be a bigger threat to Kohli

Excuses I know but if Shami umesh and jaddu played along with Mayank, we would have toppled England with ease.

I am so upset. What can I do. All decided to get injured now..

Hoefully we can win next few matches even if lose toss.

There is also something symbiotic there..Rahane defends Kohli the pathetic captain and now Kohli defends Rahane the abysmal batsman.

"I've said this many times in the past as well - along with Pujara, he [Rahane] is our most important Test batsman and he is going to continue to be. We believe in his abilities, we have believed in his abilities for a long time now and he's an impact player.

Rahane has to defend to save his place. Not a single one including shastri can criticize him

Nadeem has to go but will Kuldeep be effective on this crap wicket of chennai.. he has already lost his place in LOI squads mainly coz he cannot turn the ball at pace like others.

I’m sorry I don’t agree. I’ve seen Ishant bowling in first innings, especially first day. Most of the balls were easy for the batsmen to either leave or had enough time to play (because of the ball pitching short of good length).

We probably list match itself on first day when couldn’t take more than 3 wickets in the whole day...

it was a deadly combination of clueless dejection, captaincy, easy going bowling, Determined English batsmen & a pathetic Chennai pitch...

Good that match at Chepauk dustbowl is over and out of the way. India might win on other pitches now.

Indias strength is its bowling (which never allowed Aussies to score high) and it was screwed up by bringing Ishu and Nadeem along with an egoistic absolute brainless captain.

second test is also on the same ground

So does rank turner, when was the last time you saw India chase anything even mildly challenging on a rank tuner& do you really expect Root in  this form to fold twice unlike Kohli?

Root never played when the pitch was bad. Good batsman good pitch and you know the result. Pietersen Smith Cook Root. Saying that I would rate Pietersens innings higher as it was second innings

Shami and umesh are massive losses , siraj is a must. Right now its a 2 bowler attack.

With shami umesh and jaddu there was no breathing space for opposition .

Kohli just doesnt learn about conditions based players. Ishant is brilliant outside india with kookabura n duke but SG and these pitches dont suit him much unless its pink ball.

He bowled well though. Shami and Umesh are injured.

When u talk about such pitches u take skill out and luck in coz any ball will take a cobra turn and wud be unplayable. Dont forget opposition also has root and bairstrow is coming plus depth. On a rank turner joe root the bowler will become a threat. And if we loose toss and bat 4th its going to be really tough

Like I said it's a Catch 22 either way when you are facing a team like England without your proven match winners at home in Jaddu Umesh & Shami who are ATG trio at home.  The 2016 series had many firsts & thing just fell into right place for us barring tosses..  It doesn't happen everytime.  Regardless we have to be at our Absolute best to beat them this series.

No deadwoods..  No serial failures will work.  We have to take bold calls.

You get two things at Chennai either Flatbed or a Turner.  It's not Mohali Hyderabad or Dharamsala It can be an ultra flat Kotla or an raging Nagpur.  Pick what best suits you..

Rank turner doesnt suit India at all. That has been the nemesis of Indian batsmen for a while now. If India wants to win, it needs to follow the proven formula of a good sporting pitch and play 3 pure fast bowlers - Ishant/ Siraj/ Bumrah or if Shami/ Umesh are available then either of the two in place of Siraj.

Rohit

Gill

Pujara

Kohli

Rahane ( ideally Washi in place of this buffoon)

Pant

Pandya (if he is bowling fit)

Ashwin

Kuldeep

Bumrah

Ishant

I am guessing if Pandya is selected he is bowling fit. Otherwise I would play KL Rahul.
