Pant's reverse sweep on new ball of Anderson has become big talking point outside ICF

We should talk about what changed during covid lockdown which resulted in this change ? His approach to batting is no different than what we have seen from Sehwag or Gilchrist.

Different from Sehwag.

Sehwag didn't play unorthodox shots. Pant plays blocking game when he wants.

I wrote approach and not style

Seems like everyone is talking about that only.

I cant think of any test player that can bat properly that has played an unconventional shot like that, so close to a century.

Sure Sehwag smashed 6s to get to some 100s, 200s, and even 300s but they were traditional ODI shots.

I dont recall any recognised batsmen hitting a ball like Pant's.

Even approach is different. Pant is not hesitant in playing waiting game.

Disagree.

His first 50 runs he was humble, patient and waited, I found from a purist point of view, beautiful.  A careful, considered and measured approach. No flamboyancy.

The game was in the balance and he batted perfectly to the worrying predicament India were in at 6/150.

The last 50 was cocky, arrogant and a batsmen that was confident and aggressive. Another beautiful aspect of his game.

There is a difference one was opening and setting tone other comes in when team could potentially be in trouble.

I preferred the first half of his innings. Proper test match batting . We al know what he is capable of once he is set.

yes, first half was excellent to watch. showed up chepu, rat, and rahane for the flakes that they are.

Well doing this Andu is very special indeed..  Overall barring Indian team most of the teams play at least 4-5 reverse sweeps per test match..  Lankans probably are masters at it

Sehwags one of the best test innings other than his 87 against England was the 151 in Adelaide where he did indeed play the waiting game and drew the match for India.. so yeah Sehwag did have that knack although it came much later in his life..

the only thing lankans are masters at these days is playing spin pathetically. of all the spinners, they collapsed against bess and leach.

That was one of most audacious shots I have seen in my life.I hope people will be okay next time Pant gets out playing one of those shots .When you admire that shot you should also accept if it fails.

England were praising KP when he was pulling off those shots but the moment they failed he was also crucified.

He got out twice in international cricket playing that shot. If I remember one was against Windies when we were cruising and then had to dig deep to win it

Yeah but the second was calculated too. He knew Anderson was the biggest threat with new ball and his attack was to neutralize him. It worked as india only lost one wicket that session

If he had followed the same defense attempt that other players had against Anderson in the match,  we would not have quickly amassed such a lead and might even have collapsed against the new  ball
