When you are as talented as Pant, no one can stop you. Pant is already most important batsman that opposition will target. Link to comment
Adamant
If a player is actually talented no one can stop him from earning a permanent place. Sometimes it might take a while but eventually he will get there. Link to comment

If Iyer didn't get injured, Pant wouldn't have got a chance. With KLR scoring a ton and a half century, Pant probably would not have found a place in the next ODI assignment. Kohli, Rathore, and Shastri would neither have the eye nor the incentive to see what's obvious to most - that Pant deserves a place in every format. In Tests, all it needed was a 30-40 by Saha in the Adelaide test and Pant's international career would have been over for sometime, at least under this TM. And when he succeeded, these shameless leeches (coaches, captain and the selectors) have been claiming credit. I do hope sometime in future, Pant gets an opportunity to do everything to Kohli that he had to face. sarchasm and raki05 2 Link to comment

They can....all they have to do is not give any chances when the player is in good nick and play him when he is truely out of form and low on confidence. Then write him off. They almost did it to Pant. If not for 36 not out and baby Kohli...Pant would have not got the chance to comeback. Lone Wolf
He is already best batsman in the test side I think. Rest of the line up is just there to make up the numbers with zero consistency. He is the X factor. raki05 and nevada 2 Link to comment

That's what the did with Shaw and before that with Pant during India domestic season, same thing happened with Rahul at some point of time. But as Rahul is now aligned with captain and leadership group to play selfishly and secure your position he will not get dropped any longer. All teenagers and youngsters dont have build in mental maturity hence need guidance Pant's confidence was way down and he was making mistakes after attack after attack by captain and coach. If not for that 36 all out, he would NEVER have played in the series and would have been lost forever like many other youngsters. Dont forget that they actively contribute to the low confidence by attacking them publicly, turning public sentiments against them, not giving them a steady run and shuffling their order every match. They have an entire army of chamchas and PR ready to attack these players. During one period, the camera and commentators would repeatedly try to find fault in Pant even when nothing happened. they would keep showing replays of how he stands, etc, trying desperately to build a negative perception. Media channels were writing big articles attacking him and every social media, from twitter to youtube was turned to attack Pant. I can imagine if Shastri and Kohli attacked players like Rahul and Pant in public, what they would have done to them in private meetings. Would have definitely have means to suck their confidence dry Edited April 9, 2021 by New guy nevada, ShoonyaSifar, raki05 and 1 other 4 Link to comment

Okay then Pant was out of odi and t20 squad earlier because of selectors, same goes for Sky, Kishan, Chahar and every other talent you people harp about. When you quote me for an argument try thinking is this the best effort you can come up with. Link to comment

Pandya_Power
I think what's beyond debate is that he is an assured starter in the XI for all 3 formats (can even make a case for him as our best bat currently). However, what will be of more interest going forwrd is how his workload will be managed - emergence of Ishan should help. With modern schedule involving living out of a bio-bubble for extended periods, India needs leverage the situation to develop bench strength (one that's actually had Intl experience). Link to comment
