I am a dog owner (not a parent), I like pets, but will never call them family. Sorry, to say, when it comes to choose between family and the pet, I will choose the family. They are expendable. This is true for any dog owner. I hate people pushing the "family" limit for pets and show off their moral superiority and virtue signaling. Pet-owners will be outraging over the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China over a meal made of veal and lamb. Vegans combine these two loves (plants and animals) and irritate people the most.
