Only England are rebuilding since 1966

England are in some ways the Indian Cricket team of football. :phehe:

Huge following for the game, richest FA in the world (thanks to the premier League broadcasting deals and sponsorships), loads of talent, the best facilities... But still zero int'l trophies in almost 6 decades.

Germany are rebuilding. Spain in same boat.

Ultimately in football you cant stay on the top forever.  There will be ebbs and flows.

Only England are rebuilding since 1966.

Italy France Germany Spain have won or reached finals in the interim.

You can add Portugal to that list of winners.

England still make documentaries on reaching the semi finals of the 1990 World Cup and 1996 Euros.

Along with the heavyweight match of France Vs Portugal I'm looking forward to Germany Vs Hungary, considering during the qualifications no team committed more fouls & earned more red cards than Hungary alas it will be conducted simultaneously .

Amazing night of football. Feel for Hungary.

So it will be:

England vs Germany

Portugal vs Belgium

France vs Switzerland

Hungary were so close to qualifying. They did very well considering they were placed in the toughest group. Drew against France and Germany(led for most of the match). They were also level against Portugal for nearly 80 minutes, before the onset of goals started.

A lot of positives for them. They just need to strengthen their defense for the future.

England now face Germany.

England have only won one knockout match in Euro history, against Spain in 1996 at Wembley. A match I remember watching as a kid, Spain were robbed.

Let's see if England can end 25 years of being knocked out at the second hurdle. I doubt it.

Great night of football last night with so many ebbs and flows, sets us up for some mouth watering clashes coming up.

Top half:

Belgium v Portugal/Italy v Austria

France v Switzerland/Spain v Croatia

Bottom half:

Sweden v Ukraine/England v Germany

Netherlands v Czech/Wales v Denmark

The real tournament starts now.

If England gets through German, they have a real easy path to a final at Wembley.

Sweden/Ukraine in the QF and Netherlands/Wales in the Semi at home.. they could not have asked for an easier route.

Feel for teams like Italy, Belgium and Portugal who have to get through France and each other. They all deserve to be in the final more than England.

Germany to beat England in Wembley and continue England's failure at world events  That would be awesome

It most possibly is. :agree:

Either that or a weird hamster eating a slice of bread.

Belgium beating Portugal was expected but Czech Republic beating Netherlands was an upset. Ned had a defender get a red card for ball touch and Czech took advantage from thereon. Ned could have won if they were more proactive in the first half.

Nice to see Portugal getting kicked out yday. In last euro they drew so many matches and kept getting easy opponent till final and then fluke it to the victory.

They are not world beaters. They have one star player and others don't measure up. They are like India and West Indies in the 90s

Lame Euros.

Bloated tournament with too many average teams playing mediocre football.

Ridiculous travelling for some teams while others do little. Really skewed format with major teams on one side of the draw and the other side giving an easy passage to the final.

ICC level planning & scheduling.

Anyone ng Spain vs Croatia. Amazing match going on.

Best match of the tournament.

But also a lot of ups and downs quality wise.

The short-lived comeback of Croatia was the highlight.

Second match also following similar footsteps. France leading 3-1 and Switzerland comes back with two quick goals to level it.

Both matches had the same story.
