Options for BCCI to get Bumrah back to his best?

Recommended Posts

We play our first test vs England from 4th August, that gives BCCI and the TM around 6 weeks to turn around Bumrah's form, rhythm and confidence.

One option is for the BCCI to try and find an opportunity play a couple of county games in July. This will be very difficult due to short timelines.

Other option is for the BCCI to agree with ECB to send Bumrah to their High Performance Center at Loughborough University for a 2-3 week long stint to iron out any technical flaws. ECB sends its players to BCCI spin academy quite frequently, should not be a problem if BCCI wants ECB to reciprocate the gesture, even though the England camp may not like the idea. Not sure if this TM will like that. They have not been comfortable when players have worked with other coaches outside the NCA setup. Can they shed their ego and for Indian cricket's sake allow Bumrah and whoever wants to be at the performance centre to go there? Players have been given a 20 day break after the WTC final, they cannot travel outside UK due to travel restrictions. Some of them (especially newbies Gill, Pant, Sundar and Mayank along with the net bowlers) if they are willing, could utilise this break to work on their game.

Easier thing to do is utilize him as horses for courses type of guy.  If the pitch is flat Bumrah comes in as he can bowl with good pace & try other modes if dismissals.  Playing him 6 tests anyways on one tour is not wise at all.  Rotate him.

If it's a seam & swing friendly track don't play him.  Siraj Shardul are there.

That will not solve some technical issues - especially wrist position and body alignment in his bowling post his injury. Clearly the work done with the bowling coach Arun hasn't worked so far. Why not seek outside help?

does it matter? he played well individually. cant fault him for 2019.

what the * did our batsmen do? cant even chase 230?

Target for us was 240.  (Not 230)

Yes, our batsmen should hv done better.  But 240 on that wicket was not a low target as there was plenty of moisture on the surface due to non stop rain prior to the match.   Can't blame Bumrah alone,  but having said that he was mediocre in that match as well. Took just one wicket and largely looked non threatening whereas every NZ fast bowler looked dangerous. Matt Henry was unplayable.
