2021 Is Officially The Year Of B Teams

First India wins a historic match at Gabba with a B team

 

Then Windies win the test series in Bangla with their B team (something they couldn't do with their A teams in the past)

 

Then NZ wins the second test and series against England in England with a B team

 

Now English B (Or is it C? ) team whoops Pakistan and wins an ODI series

 

There is something romantic about these unearthed gems and journeymen coming together in desperate times and winning against stronger teams. Thanks to Covid, we had a chance to see the bench warmers shine. Can we say 2021 is the year of B teams?

What is the lesson here? Cricket prioritises seniority too much when there is very good talent overlooked?

good for world cricket, coz teams will realise it soon that they have better bench strength now

yep. Smart cricket managers and coaches will look at these results and will be planning to expose more and more second string players in bilaterals and easy home series. This will develop a healthy bench strength and might even unearth stars from no where.

 

Boards where senior players control everything so that they can pad their stats in every inconsequential series will of course try to forget these results as soon as possible

Wish we had played our B side (Gabba wallah) in the WTC F, who knows under Rahane's leadership something good may have happened, even a shared trophy would have been much better than another KO surrender.

Cause he is? He has the best team at his disposal and he still fails at finding talent, implementing strategies for specific players and he is absolutely beyond mediocre when it comes to selections.

I want two teams playing different formats,  at different places a permanent thing.

Why not?

More cricket for us, more players getting chances , more money for bcci.
