Truly Sindhu is the anti-Kohli of Indian sports. Clutch set point saves at the end and served it out in style. One tough opponent she had, don't let the scoreline fool you, These Jap girls have infinite stamina and challenging to outlast them in 3rd.

I’m so so so happy she closed it out in the second set. We were definitely going to lose if the game went into the 3rd

Rankings are useless then.

I guess so.. Lee Chong Wei could never win gold in Badminton - same with Momota Kento from Japan... In Fencing apparently all the top 4 crashed out in the quarterfinals.

Rankings are an indicator of consistency- they cannot predict what will happen in sport. That doesn't demean what a person has achieved though. Deepika has earned her right to be #1. It wasn't handed to her on a platter. Pity she couldn't overcome her nerves to beat the eventual gold medallist. She has still achieved more than any Indian has done before her - so good on her for that. I am sure she is more devastated about her performance than any of us. It's easy for us to preach.

What a game, Yamaguchi fought hard and gave it all clawing back that deficit and having 2 game points but Sindhu's clutchness prevailed. She is a good match up against these East Asians who can't seem to handle her height and power. glad this did not go to 3 games because they were both utterly spent by the end of it, the rally in that 2nd game when both needed to catch their breath especially.

How come Sindhu plays like **** most of the year and peaks in these big tournaments? That is alien for us Indian cricket fans.

At the start I was fearing about her group encounters, suddenly raised the game and how!!!!!

she maintains this and honestly the title is hers...

This match appeared to have more quality than the other matches.

If Sindhu loses the SF,will she get bronze ?

No. U get it only in boxing which is a contact sport. The reason is you Might come across junior mike tyson in semis and he bashes you so bad that you are in hospital with three broken ribs and five broken teeth and you cant participate in final. On the other hand the other semi final might have had two vikash krishnan type fuddus and one goes to final. This is injustice as you might have beaten both vikash krishnans easily but due to luck of draw you are out. To mitigate this boxing has bronze for semi finalists.

Yeah I have a question regarding this, why don’t mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao etc take part in Olympics?

So we have

2-3 boxers in shout of a medal QF (including those who have not boxed but are tipped excluding lovlina)

Mens hockey in QF

Sindhu in Semis

Wrestling yet to start,,,with 2-3 prospects.

2 in the bag and 7-8 promising prospects. Hope we can match London if things go right from where...we will overtake Rio with ease me thinks.

Because till 2016 olympics boxing was only for amateur sportspersons. They changed it in RIO. But nobody cares for an olympic medal when you earn 20 Million for a professional fight. You risk injuries etc if u in olympics and if you lose with random judges you ruin your reputation..

who are the opponents of sindhu in semi?

Taipai and thai? what are their ranks?

If it is Tai Tzu (world number 1), more or less gold medal chances over for Sindhu. When Tai Tzu brings her A game no chance for the remaining players, if she brings her A+ game Sindhu (no matter which version shows up) will be lucky to win 25 points in total. Most talented player of all time in many people's books. Very unique playing style and you can't prepare for that. H2H is something like 15-5 in favor of Tai Tzu. In recent years only Marin has been able to beat her in big games, that too using gamesmanship.

Luckily for us if there is anyone left in the draw who can take her out, it is her opponent in QF today, Intanon. Match-up problems and they always play each other close. In her early years Intanon used to bully Tai Tzu, scars remain till this day and she gets tight against this opponent.

So whole of India, pray for Intanon's success today, for that will clear Sindhu's path to gold.

Sindhu did beat female badminton Federer in Rio R16, but that was a different player. Last 3 years it has been one-way traffic.

Imagine Tyson declared the loser on points. He will probably box all the so called judges  to heaven
