I would not pick Dhawan In T20Is. Ultimately, he ends up playing at s low SR in international T20 matches.

Iyer maybe picked ahead of Kishan ... but the high SR approach if Kishan interests me more from a modern T20 perspective.

Kishsn / Iyer kind of fringe picks will ultimately be decided after IPL 2021 ends.

Dhawan is a sure shot pick though, specially if he has good IPL.

Iyer too might be preferred for 'experienced' and 'all round game'

Perfect XI, I ll make one change D Chahar in place of Siraj

on those pitches Chahar won't get much swing.Pace is needed.Death bowling is also an issue.

As for batting,Thakur is there and Rahul Chahar is decent too

Chahar & Thakur are both different bowlers, I don't see any similarity there.

In T20s they are quite similar.  Their primary weapon is change of pace after the first 6 overs and they try to swing the ball upfront.

Both have similar release points and similar pace in T20s.

Siraj is a wonderful bowler, keep him in the reserves.

He will be far more useful in the playing 11.

Most likely xi india will pick in first match:

Rohit

Dhawan/Rahul

Kohli

Iyer

Sky

Pant

Hardik

Jadeja

Bhvui

Chahal

Bumrah

But considering pandya's recent form & fitness with bowl they will have to drop someone to play extra bowler and i think it will be sky/iyer.

Not really thakur can bowl 140+ as well in t20 while chahar is around 125 - 133kph mostly.

India need a swing bowler up front, Chahar is the best bet. Even last year in IPL, there was something for swing bowlers in both Abu Dhabi & Dubai.

I see lots of love for Shardul suddenly, but he was absolutely crap in the IPL this year. When Shardul gets hit, he has nowhere to hide, he resorts to knucke balls & wide balls. Shardul mostly bowl one change for any team he plays, so I won't mind someone like Shami in the middle overs as 3rd seamer over him

both Siraj and Thakur were better than Chahar in UAE last year.

Thakur gets hit at death yes,Chahar doesnt even bowl there.Mostly its Curran,Bravo and Thakur

Also hes a bitter hitter

Shami is crap in T20s and doesnt have any secondary skills

Thakur hands down needs to be in T20, he is as essential as Hardik in this format.

However toss up between Chahar and Siraj. Both are primarily bowlers who are useless at death for the most part with Siraj obviously being the much better bowler overall in terms of more skills, pace and a higher pedigree overall but on the other hand Chahar provides the batting depth where Siraj is another no.11 from what we have seen so far. So overall the difference may not be that large.

Ok disagree with you, if there is a choice between Deepak or Shardul, I ll pick the former.

Regarding Shami, I agree with unidimensional skill set but he most likely to be picked ahead of Siraj in the final 15 of the squad.

even if Chahar plays,it'll be at 9 where his batting won't come in most games.

Siraj is not useless at the death.Bowls yorkers consistently. And obviously that'll be useful every game.

Ofcourse its only possible if Rahul Chahar is our no. 9. If Chahal plays, you cant carry 3 tailenders

11 at the moment (from those in the poll)

KL

Kishan

Samson

SKY

Pant

SDP (Hardik)  (c)

Sundar

R Chahar

Siraj

Bumrah

Natrajan

4 relatively different type of pace bowlers, 1 leg spinner, & 1 off spinner

3 left handers in top 7, R Chahar (a developing cricketer) can bat well at 8 … SKY, Pant & SDP are all unique batsmen … Top order (#1-3) has 2 swashbucklers in Kishan & Samson, along with a relatively steady and therefore consistent KL ... Out of the top 7, any 3-4 in any combination clicking on the day can be devastating for the opponents

7 of the 11 are top fielders ... Sundar, Siraj, Bumrah & Natarajan need to improve their fielding

But this is more like a post T20 WC 11

Siraj was probably the best Indian death bowler in the first tranche of IPL 2021.

He was bowling quick, accurate and swinging yorkers one after the other in the death overs and mixing it with some slower balls too.

Two times he defended totals while bowling the last over, and won the matches for RCB. Which shows good temperament too.

If you observe their bowling styles in T20s, both rely on lots of slower balls and yorkers from overs 7 to 20. Shardul may bowl the odd 140 k ball but they are very few and far between. The quick yorkers are mostly absent.

We need 2 pacers who can bowl accurate and quick yorkers  (  Bumrah and Siraj )  and 1 bowler who is a slower ball specialist cum No.8 batter (  Shardul or Deepak based on current form ).

Maybe Siraj and Deepak opening the bowling and Bumrah and Siraj bowling at the death, will be ideal.

2 pacers who can move the ball upfront

2 pacers who can bowl.good quick yorkers

1 bowler who is a slower ball specialist

1 good No.8 batter cum hitter

We will have it all.

Siraj was the best Indian pacer earlier this year in IPL (confidence from the Aus tour), but better to keep him away from LOIs for sometime. He should ideally play all 5 tests in England, then will have a gruelling IPL schedule. For a new International pacer, that's too much of a workload to handle in a 3 months time period. By the time of the T20 WC, he could be totally exhausted.

Let the Bhuvis and Chahars play the T20Is

We shouldn't have both Shardul and Chahar in the playing eleven, both 5 foot 7 inch bowlers who bowl at 130 kph and rely on pace variation if they don't find any swing which probably will be the case.

Also Shardul as a package is better than Chahar so I will take him. He is a clutch performer too

He takes wickets, doesn't matter if they are all caught at long on just one inch ahead of the boundary.
