He's been a major thorn in India's side. That would be the only reason anyone would dislike him. 

 

He was pretty much THE difference between the 2 teams when India came here in 2018. Saved England from a bunch of shaky situations with his bat. Had an annoying little cameo on Day 1 too. India just has a really hard time getting him out.

why despise him? he is a pretty ordinary test cricketer, as we have been seeing so far. I always thought his 2018 performance against us was a fluke, which mostly came about because we didn't take their tail seriously enough. with the ball, he lacks pace, consistency and control. and with the bat, he does have genuine potential, but has become more of a T20-type player.
