Rohit will score 35-40 impact runs in unfavorable conditions but will win matches in favorable conditions, on top of that is one of the best slip fielders in the world and offers leadership, 2 of the qualities Indian team probably needs more than his batting.

 

So he is not impact or nothing, he is impact or match winning knock + other attributes.

 

I don’t look at players who can offer only one thing and are a liability in other departments.

Vijay had impressive 2014 overseas cycle. Got 93 in SA, Brilliant England tour where apart from Dhoni, only he looked someone who can provide some resistance although the performance declined as the series went on, then brilliant Australian Series-that Brisbane hundred on first day was one of the best innings by Indian opener..
