Even at 50% capacity, he has played 2 good knocks which is similar to or better than guys supposedly in good form - Rohit, KL, Jadeja and Pant, who in this test have only scored less than 50 runs combined.

In the last test:

Rohit 19 & 59

KL 0 & 8

Jadeja 4 & 30

Pant 2 & 1

Therefore in the last 3 innings, only 1 good score from these 4 who are in good form :hehe:

I thought you were on vacation. why are you defending puji on vacation :p:

I did mention 3 countries. Ind had never won a series in Aus in its history till Pujara made it happen :aha:

Yes he'll always have that epic series. It was a one time thing which is okay

Plus tons of other performances including in Ind, SL (145*), Aus (2020-21 scored 3 50s in 4 innings in the last 2 tests), Eng, …

I thought performance against Minnows doesn't matter?

He scored 3 50s in 8 innings in recent Aus tour, which is alright, but not earth shattering. I like that you just put dots for England, enough said about that.

So really its one exceptional series, one decent series in his long overseas sena career

Yes because of the bowlers even 40 and 50s won series while previously even big 100s and 200s didnt. Simple logic, attributing that win to Pujara is like attributing a condom packet for preventing pregnancy, the condom packet was just there to keep the condom in good shape, not to do the actual sex

The best performance by an Indian batsman overseas :aha:

The creator of history tired all Aus bowlers to submission

Those 3-4 would be back in the hut in no time to give any advantage to bowlers. After Sehwag hit that blistering 80 to set up a win for Ind against Eng, a certain someone scored a 100 to remark that he always wanted to play such an inning. Yes, after 130 or so odd tests iirc at that point in time to sum up the careers

Poor knowledge of history. What about Amarnath's 598 runs in 5 tests against Roberts, Holding, Marshall and Garner at their peak in 1982-83? Those pitches had much more spice in them than the 2018 tracks in Oz, which were not that challenging apart from the one in Perth. The Sydney test in particular was very flat. Chepu's 2018 series reminds me more of Manju's 1989 series against Wasim, Waqar, Qadir, and Imran. He ground his way to 569 runs in 4 tests against a top-notch bowling attack but on flattish tracks.

Also, to respond to some old post from earlier, WI are not minnows now in home conditions. Holder, Gabriel, Roach all have fantastic home records (esp. the former). Having a high avg against them is not trivial. Likewise, a low avg. against them cannot be dismissed as minnows.

I won't deny that Sehwag was a match winner in SC or that Chepu had one of the great overseas tours of Oz in 2018 - these are facts. Similarly, it is also true that SRT and to a lesser extent Dravid also choked in some crucial conditions - that is also a fact. A third fact is that, technically speaking, both SRT and Dravid were far superior to any player right now (includes Rat and Chepu); had they had a bit more mental strength, they would have easily averaged 60-65+. And my last fact is that Amarnath was the greatest overseas bat that India has ever had. He performed against peak WI, he performed against peak Pak (which was probably 2nd strongest in the world) + peak Pak home umpiring.

Your first paragraph: I am referring to the “since 1990 period” (which I have mentioned many times). When your team creates history, you also get bonus for your performance.

Your 2nd paragraph: The recent WI is relatively still a minnow. In tests, its downfall began in 1995 when Aus beat them at home. Great series that one.

Your 3rd paragraph: more concerned with impact than “bookish technical solidity”. Best example of impact batting is Bradman.

That comment was about scoring match winning 100 in 4th innings. Its quite rare to happen, only 4 Indian batsmen have done it. Pujara played 90 matches and hasn't done it either

Flying back today … wonderful vacation including seeing that a 50% Pujara is batting on 50 odd

As the saying goes, zen master can tell no wrong :om:

Long weekend here and delighted to wake up to another Pujara performance translate to another win in SENA

Highlights in SENA since 2018:

2018 in SA - a fighting 50 to help Ind win a test

2018 in Eng - carried his bat through with a 130 odd

2018-2019 in Aus - 500+ runs w/ 3 100s

2020-2021 in Aus - 3 50s in the last two tests, tons of balls faced in pain

2021 in Eng - a 50% Pujara already played impactful knocks, along with a lone warrior 90 odd

:hatsoff:

Start of match date greater than or equal to 30 Aug 2018
Batting position between 1 and 7

Overall figures
Player Span Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s
CA Pujara 2018-2021 16 31 2 1293 193 44.58 3526 36.67 4 7 3 142 2

AM Rahane 2018-2021 16 30 1 784 112 27.03 1903 41.19 1 4 3 71 6

11 50+ scores, along with impactful 40s like in this series in Eng, in the last 31 innings in SENA! ... 3,500+ balls faced, which is roughly 122 balls per completed innings

Yet gets out to the very first ball that he faces with the new ball. In current form, He is the worst batsman against new ball in swinging conditions except may be Rahane.
