Pujara, the hero of a hundred battles!

I have maintained that Pujara is the most impactful Indian test batsman since 1990. What is heartening to see is that he is able to make impact despite being not at his best!!

 

Who can forget his 500+ runs series in Aus ... Recently, in SENA - the last series in Aus where he hit 3 50s in last 2 tests and now in Eng, helped Ind win the 2nd test and waging a battle in the 3rd! 

 

Fans, let's salute the hero of a hundred battles!!

The bar is set so low by some fans that it is rather sad. The guy bats at no 3 for INDIA - a cricket-mad country of billion ppl - and has been averaging mid-20s in the last 2 years. In the only format he plays. He is unable to play swinging balls even after multiple county seasons. He made 90-odd runs in good batting conditions and the team is still in a losing condition but we should celebrate his "success"? If he relaxes after his 100 and does not convert this into a big double for the team, it will be nothing but a 'save my own ***' innings.

Pujara is better than Dravid in India and Australia. These two countries make up 60% of the matches they played in their careers.

Shortcomings aside he still has been our most impactful test batsman of the last decade. 

 

I feel they should send him to open. Suits his defensive game more.

Needed this innings to save his test career. Has been woefully out of form. Can he be consistent. Or will it be the rare good knock amongst bunch of failed innings like in recent past.

Dude he was failing for almost 2 years and still not being called out. There was a time when sachin or dravid failed in 3 matches, their obituaries woudl be front page of every media and channel  the commentators would question them and post match every interview would ask about their retirement

Consistency in performance has to be one of the key parameters to judge any international player.

 

The last 10 tests or last 15 LOIs is a long enough time to consider current ability and form.

 

If a batsman has a low average or a bowler has a high average in the last 10 tests then he is failing and some step needs to be taken.

 

All players playing tests for India are very special. That is why they are playing for their country. Which means occasion good performances will come.

 

But if we want Team India to perform consistently then we need consistent performers.

 

Individual names are not important.

 

Let's us not castigate players for failing in 2 or 5 matches ... but let us not accept the regular inclusion of players who are showing gross inconsistency in 10 or more tests.

That's what I meant. Pujara, Rahane need to be lot more consistent. On the flip side, I have read some comments here already saying Rahul is not good enough as an opener or Pant needs to be dropped after a couple of failures, despite his recent effort in Australia. 

 

Bottom line is there is no logical thinking, just saying anything based on their emotions.

not all fans are like that ... w.r.t Pujara he has been far too inconsistant .That's why his averages sucks in SENA + WI despite playing for over a decade as of now. Had there been a much more competent TM in place , he would have been  dropped from the team long way back especially considering the fact that India is the  country in which 

'talent pool to pick from' is the  .largest  by far.....That makes Pujara's  prolonged stay in the team and related  inconsistancy even more of a sense less  mistake
