Lone Wolf Posted September 4, 2021 Posted September 4, 2021 As pointed out earlier Rohit's massive WC campaign & Rahul's twin failures in Australia & WI tour led to Rohit opening in home games vs SA.. Nothing to do with Kohli.
adi B Posted September 4, 2021 Posted September 4, 2021 It was kind of a forced move with M Vijay and Raul declining and were kind of walking wkts at that time. I'd say good for rohit he didn't fail in those early innings as an opener else rat would have shown him the door in a flash ,Rohit is now an established player in the team.

In a normal world, anyone with even an iota of shame, would have resigned from captaincy for Rohit to take over. lets be honest thats how we think not kohli, which is why we are not international captains Kohli has always regarded rohit very highly.....his 1st move as captain was to try to fit in Rohit in test, Ppl forget that he 1st tried it with no.3 in Australia in 2014 In sydeny pujara was dropped and Rohit was made to bat at 3, rohit scored 50 Next tour Lanka Rohit was pretty below avg n pujara played a great knock as an opener so Rohit lost his place again Lets not insult our cricketer by calling them jealous n all. These are not 90s cricketers or Pakistani cricketers. Kohli doesnt have to be jealous of ashwin or Rohit coz he himself has a huge stature. We said the same about dhoni in case of his peers. A captain always thinks of teams better ment coz thats how his team will progress n he ll keep his job. You can disagree with him doesnt make him jealous. A cricketer who hasnt achieved anything may think like that not a guy who has credentials of a kohli or dhoni. Lets take ur thought even for a second still it doesnt make sense coz Rohit test career was going no where so he cudnt have ruined a career which was nowhere and in ODI cricket Rohit position cannot be even touched and he never even tried Adamant 1

Based on this logic, then rahane must have talent greater than bradman as per kohli. because this "batsman" has been failing for about 40 tests and still continues to play with impunity.

Look rahane has been tough to drop coz of his inconsistency - whenever he has been almost on edge he gives a performance and that often has come in an overseas win. He was dropped in Sa for Rohit U think Rohit got longer rope....no. He was in n out of team Rahane already made a reputation so his backing was based on that and in between runs kept coming. So Rohit n Rahane are not same cases . Now same will happen again..this cycle has harmed him n team both ways.

Certainly rohit had a lengthy period where he was in and out, and now he has gotten a long rope (rightfully so). I brought up rahane because if someone is going to "credit" Kohli for playing Rohit as opener, then Kohli (not this so-called team management) can also take the "credit" for playing Rahane for 30-40 tests despite doing poorly. But we also the ones who abuse him of not backing someone , we were the one who abused him when he dropped him in SA Someone needs backing when they are not scoring not 30-40 in total looks bad coz of last 10-12 If you take his last 3 yrs Before 2019- he had 2 bad yrs, previous to that all good yrs 2019- he avg 71 (cant drop him after that) 2020- he avg 38 ( its not great not bad just avg kind) 20212 - 11 test 20 avg but all 3 dipped same time so all were on edge . They all kept scoring here n their Now rahane is on edge

Vancouver Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 How can a 34 years old batsman scoring 1st 100 abroad after 45 tests and 14 years after his international debut prove people right or wrong? sage and adi B 1 1
vvvslaxman Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 If Agarwal and Shaw had made full use of their chances instead of being sitting ducks Rohit would not have come back. Shaw/Agarwal failed in NZ. Gill was not played despite having wonderful tour game. It created an opening.

What has his age to do with what is spoken here? It is his 43rd test match overall and His test debut is in 2013 and it is not even 8 years complete sine. He did prove many people wrong... those who thought he can never score runs in SENA. And many people who have been surprised all this while why he could not score runs in test cricket like in LOI have got something to vindicate their acumen. And people like VVS Laxman also commented "ROHIT'S STORY A GREAT LEARNING FOR YOUNGSTERS" in the cricinfo vlog today. And yes, the question is not who he proved right/wrong but the question is "Does Virat Kohli deserve the credit for promoting Rohit as an opener?"

Still you have to take those chances and especially at a time when everyone was raving about his white ball exploits.

Good players can often suceed despite that but need enough chances. Imagine if england 2014 was kohlis first series and he was dropped forever after that
