Kohli deserves credit for Rohit the test opener

We bash him for his endless foolish calls but when it works u gotta give credit .

After years of overseas failure he kept faith and gave him 3rd position 1st and then opening (although their was a lot of public pressure for this ) but credit he took this call . Now he actually looks the best test batsman in this test team on form

Also i hve learned a lesson my self , some time u need to back a player of this quality to extreme level. He has proved me wrong - i was always of the opinion around 2013-15 that he cant score overseas in any format and wont last as opener in any format when he travels abroad . Tottaly proven wrong

Jab tak kohli captain u cant afford failures...............till ur scoring ur in team

Rohit had such a great WC, Virat was forced to find a place for Rohit in the lineup. Middle order is packed, so opening became the only option.

Anyways Rohit is highly underrated here, he is an ATG Indian batsman & it didn't even matter if he had scored a hundred here or not

Rohit ATG ODI men hai

Test was always a huge question.

No place in middle was secondary , his lack of runs was 1st problem. IF he was scoring they wud have thrown pujara or rahane which they did try also but rohit never got consistent infact he was struggling

Opening worked for him in all formats

Ian chappell once said sometimes coming before the star batsman of ur team works for u coz u dnt have the pressure to liveup to him so he suggested Rohit shud bat up

I wonder if one of his problems isn't similar to what seemed to afflict Gordon Greenidge. The West Indies opener was a fine player but like a startled tortoise he'd retreat into his shell when Viv Richards joined him at the crease. At times in Test cricket, Rohit seems overawed by Kohli and his reputation, and struggles to play in his shadow.

This is another reason, apart from his skill, why No. 3 would be the ideal spot for Rohit. Coming to the crease prior to Kohli would provide him with a chance to become established before the arrival of the "big gun".

It will be a pity if Rohit doesn't come to terms with Test batting, not just for his own sake but also for the sake of fans. In full cry, the Rohit-Kohli combination at three and four would be hard to contain.

@Ankit_sharma03 this only proves one thing i.e MSD is a really great judge of talent. He backed Rohit, Jadeja, (even Ishant ) from their early years & kept backing them till they became players of elite class.

Virat ne bas bani huyi team ka faida uthaya, worst man manager, even worse at building new players

more a lesson for backing in form players

Rohit was always in form in ODI since he started opening

More like finding a right spot for batsman,...............something i think we shud look at pant for in LOI

MSD was without a doubt , thank god he even went n settled pujara, rahane, kohli, vijay before going or else kohli wud have made a mash of them

If he had captained 2 yrs more he wud have settled KL also

If Rohit got enough games at home as Pujara & Rahane, he would have surpassed them both long time ago, let's not compare thr abilities of Rohit with them

Rohit has been slightly unfortunate that early on his test performance didn't match with jis ODI exploits & he got routinely dropped

infact the whole CSK quota was crap stuff- vijay, jadeja, raina, ashwin, deepak , shardul all deserved to play for India

I don't know if "credit" is the word. given rohit's ODI form and the fact that he opened in ODIs, it was necessary to try and find a place for him, and opening was one of the available slots. it is one of rat's better decisions, that is true

Don't think he had any choice tbh...  After his monstrous WC Rohit still wasn't in the playing XI on WI tour.  Rahul failed massively in Australia & then in WI tour as well.

They had to fit Rohit somewhere & opening spot was the only one left..  Rohit made this count in the home season along with Mayank & bulldozed Saffers.

Rohit was the opener in Australia. He had missed first two tests due to injury.
