Bumrah is generally rested in bilateral LOIs these days.

 

Too much rest is not good for a fast bowler either. 

 

Most great fast bowlers of the past actually recommend playing more and more 5 day matches rather than resting. This is the best way to train the body to play long test series like this one.

 

Moreover, we need to develop young quicks like Prasidh too. No point handing him a late debut like Saini.

IPL was s curtailed one. Followed by a decent gap 

 

WTC Final was an one off test followed by a month's rest.

 

IPL 2nd tranche will feature very few games.

 

Just 2 tests against NZ.

I don't know why people have problem with Ishant. Ishant has been very good for last few years .Only a captain and TM know the importance of a bowler who will bowl his spell economically every time he is thrown the ball.He has been mostly injury free and that is his asset. Will he run thru batting lineups no but he will do his job most days and pick one or two wickets with very decent economy. There is no need to kick him out fast bowlers don't grow on trees.

That is not the case.

 

Ishant have never been fully fit in the last 2 years. 

 

Misses half the test matches due to injury and even when he plays, his run up lacks his usual energy and rhythm.

Because even when he has played in 2020 and 2021, he has not looked fit in half the matches he has played in.

 

It is better to pick pacers who are fully fit on more occasions than not.
