How far will Ind go in the 2021 T20 WC?

The T20 squad has players who have been playing WC for a long long time - Dhoni (mentor, playing WCs since 2007), Rohit (WCs since 2007), Jadeja (WCs since 2009), Kohli (WCs since 2011), and Ashwin (WCs since 2011). Other experienced players include Bhuvi and Shami.

 

Can these guys work together to utilize their experience? Or would it be a case of "too many cooks ..."? ... Does it lack freshness? Or does the squad have the right mix of experience and youth?

 

If we talk about teams with more or less same key players finally making it - one example of success is Pakistan, who had entered every SF of an ODI WC since 1979, finally winning it in 1992 (helped by players like Wasim and Inzi). Also an example of failure is Pakistan of 2003 where it filled its squad with big names to end up nowhere. 

 

Where do you think that the team will end up - on the winners' podium or SF or out in group stages?

There is only one option for knockouts, I think India will cross semis this time, but fail in the finals

We will be in the final...  A sure shot gora team will face us in Semis..  In a slow low dubai/Abu Dhabi pitch..  It's over for them. 

 

We have good players of spin in middle order..  SKY & Pant..  KLR Kohli are vital players n 150-160 chases. 

If things go south at the top or with Pant..  Kishan another spin basher is there.

I'd rather lose to pak and lift the trophy than winning against them and choking in the KOs.

A major concern for me is the top 3 as they could look to play conservative cricket (and also for "averages" and trying to stay till the end), meaning that #4-7 may be put in impossible situations of playing at a very high SR from the first ball on pitches that are gradually becoming difficult to bat on as the game progresses or having to come in early in a pressure match where a opposition bowler would be on fire picking up 3-4 wkts in the PP

 

If the par scores are to be around 170 and the top 3 get to 100-110 around 15-16 overs, the rest of the team would need to play at a RR of 12 or more on pitches getting difficult to bat on

I want the team to win the cup but will keep my expectations under control (if Ind wins, the happiness will be more. If it loses, good cricket can be appreciated) as:

 

a) Conservative top order #1-3 (potential stats padding exercise to win player of the tournament)

b) #4-7 likely to be under more pressure, coming in to bat with pitches becoming worse to bat on

c) Battling Asian teams in group … These teams play spin well and used to such conditions 

d) NZ can spring up surprises 

e) Ind’s tendency to do something incredibly dumb at key moments 

f) Could lose toss in imp games 

g) IPL could tire/injure some players 

 

Ind v Pak. Hope that the tradition of beating Pak continues -> Ind 

Ind v NZ. Have to be careful here. Boult can run through the side on his day. Jamieson likes Ind too. NZ can throw a curve ball -> NZ 

 

Ind v AFG. Challenge of Rashid & company. But AFG can bat badly too -> Ind ... AFG can create an upset in a WC game. Let's hope it is not v Ind

 

Ind v BD. BD has had comical moments (SDP’s last over for e.g.) v Ind in world cups (even in Nidahas Trophy) but maybe this time the luck could finally smile on it. Conditions would suit it too -> 50/50

 

Ind v A2 -> Ind (Probably a minnow bashing game that can make fans feel that only if the team had played such cricket early on)

 

Pak/BD and NZ could drop 1-2 games here and there but sneak through to SF   ... Don't know how teams like AFG will turn up

I think we will get an easy opponent in the semis and by mistake reach the Finals ,then it'll end in tears on the final day as usual

Semis will likely be India, New Zealand, England, West Indies.

 

Going to be tough against Eng and WI.. Need to get our A game to make the finals

I feel India should win this.

This is the most well selected Indian squad I have seen for a T20 WC. Earlier they used to select an ODI team. (Rahane 2016) 

 

Also I always thought medium-sized slow turning UAE grounds are better for us than small flat grounds we have back home. 

 

Looking at other teams, I feel we are favorites in these conditions.
