Adamant Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 How are the players at fault here, it's there money hungry board which dictates what they do. Blaming players is idiocy.
st12345 Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 to be honest the way the players boarded the flight to go to uae just hours after test getting cancelled citing fear of covid as reason surely looks chickening out .whats sad is i just saw Manchester weather of last 2 days ,today and next 2 days .its continously raining from 1st day .at max we could have got like 30 overs of game till now and another 50 overs over next 2 days .we could have just stayed there and that would have ensured series win but these cowards decided to take advantage of the situation and decided to run away giving eng a chance to come back to series

They would have had to go without these players.

As I said, it is about players not BCCI. BCCI did not refuse to play, the players did (probably already in talks with the franchises during the series) Now BCCI could accommodate ECB by playing the 5th test during a future tour, more chances for Eng to draw the series as Ind players would not have the same leverage that it had by already playing 4 tests in the series. Because of some of these players, Ind may have to wait longer for a test series win in Eng. Link “India's cricket board (BCCI) chief Sourav Ganguly said their players refused to play the fifth and final Test against England due to COVID-19 concerns and denied that the upcoming Indian Premier League had played any part in the decision.” "The BCCI will never be an irresponsible board. We value other boards too," he said, adding that the match is likely to be held as a one-off match next year.” Edited September 13, 2021 by zen

Since Indian team wakes out and ran aaay, any scheduling test matches with India doesn’t guarantee anymore. And insurance won’t be on board given what bcci and players have just done. England cricket board is going to lose big amount. And insurance’s confidence on India will be questionable given the recent history. And players couldn’t done that without support of bcci. Bcci can’t fool anyone. Money and insurance are not on my mind. My concern is about a rare test series win put in probable jeopardy by players, who used this opportunity to fly early to UAE, so they could play the first few games. One cannot support such an "unpatriotic" act, a potential scam, by some of the players. Edited September 13, 2021 by zen Finer 1
maniac Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 (edited) At this point don’t care if it is 2-1 or 2-2. Facts no one can take away India played tremendous cricket overall The quality of cricket especially the bowling from both sides was breathtaking and great to watch Both teams had flaws with India obviously having lesser flaws. India was leading when the series was called off There were positive cases in the Indian camp Subjective India would have steamrolled England if the 5th test went on England would have tied the series The game would be a draw/rained off So facts point to India being the better team Who would have won the series is subjective Best solution is put an asterisks next to the series result of 2-1, don’t give anyone the trophy, India gets a pat on the back for dominating the series, the result is not counted as a England loss. Everyone moves on. People talk about this boardroom politics but ask any sportsman, neither Kohli or Rohit would guarantee they will win the final test nor someone like Anderson or Root will think they will lose the match because any champion player will have that self belief and no delusions when playing at the highest level. So why would they want to have this as a loss on their records? I don’t blame the players if they were too scared due to covid. They did that for IPl money or to escape the loss etc are only speculation. However you can’t penalize the opponent who showed up to play either. Best case solution, series abandoned with India leading 2-1 Edited September 13, 2021 by maniac
deathmonger Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 india win series 2-1. last match will be cancelled. ecb might make some noise but bcci will pay them off (would have lost the case anyhow).

The bubble rules or the lack of it applies to both teams Indian camp has covid cases India refused to play the last test England was the team coming from behind so India had the upper hand. I am not sure why people are blaming ECB here. They are taking advantage of a perfect situation which was our fault or we were the victim of circumstances. It’s our headache. Had we been in their position we would do the same too because losing a home series is a bigger deal for us than England anyways. we need to see how BCCI deals with this situation instead of playing the victim card here

Again how do you know what the terms and conditions were when the players didn’t take the field on the game day? The reason why this is still a controversy and not a mutual cancellation is because of all the holes in logic from our side. Now sure if your point is who cares, BCCI will throw money and make it better then there is not much to debate here. Also how come the Indian players are so powerful to make this call without consulting with BCCI especially even when the Team management wasn’t fully present due to being isolated? That’s a bigger concern than ECB or even the series win/draw zen 1

I foresee ipl being played exclusively in the future. Perhaps 3 times a year. Edited September 13, 2021 by Jay

Gollum Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 (edited) A part of me wants a forfeit, so that BCCI can sever all ties with ECB, maybe even break away from ICC (people may think this is far-fetched but it will definitely happen in the next 20-30 years, something has to give at some point, sooner the better). No Indian participation in WTC, WC, T20 WC, CT...let these bhikaris manage for 4 years without alms from Indian market. What started in 2017 must reach a logical conclusion. We can expand IPL in the meantime, tempt a few international stars away from national duty, maybe even boards, play a few series against friendly boards on our terms. When rest understand their folly, they will come back with mercy petitions and we can renegotiate new balance of power in ICC boardroom which must include higher share of revenue, more representation in various committees, much bigger IPL window, India getting more hosting rights, and who knows maybe a blanket ban on terror state Pakistan from ICC. Sickens me that our share of money goes to other boards including PCB. We have a lot to gain by doing something radical and calling ECB's bluff. South African cricket survived for over 2 decades without ICC during apartheid years, hardly any international cricket yet they returned in early 90s as a top team. I am sure Indian cricket will thrive for next few years with a 4-5 months long IPL, proper domestic season and 3-4 series per year. Follow American leagues like NFL, NBA. 90% fans, money, sponsors from India, other boards must do well to remember that. Look at long term future, we will lose nothing by skipping 4-5 ICC events this decade, if it means setting the stage towards totally controlling cricket's governing body and annihilating ECB, PCB, maybe even CA if they wish to go down that path. vvvslaxman Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 India is offering 2 extra T20 matches during the next series. But i am not sure the sponsors who shelled out 25 million will like the idea of replacing a Test match with 2 T20s. It all comes down to how determined ECB is.
