One day to go before deadline

The other thread is changes you expect but this is changes you want and with reasons

Shoot

The obvious ones- Chahar for Bhuvi, Thakur for Hardik, don't need anything else. Case can be made for Siraj but Shami is not bad either.

Copy and paste from the other thread:

My final squad based on a mix of factors such as potential, match winning abilities, role, etc.

Openers

Kishan - responsible for giving quick starts (also the reserve WK)

Gaikwad - Play positive cricket

#3-4 (if Kishan gets out, Jadeja can go at 3, if Gaikwad, SKY if L-R combination is to be maintained)

SKY - 360 degrees batting

Jadeja - can bowl too. responsible for playing a Moeen type of role

#5-6 (SDP in if replacing a right hander, Pant in, if replacing a left hander if L-R combination is to be maintained)

SDP (Hardik) - responsible for managing the death overs. can bowl too

Pant (wk) - responsible for the death overs

Bowlers:

Thakur - can bat too and useful bowler in middle overs ... will share overs with Jadeja and SDP

Bumrah - for death overs

Siraj - for PP bowling

Varun C - mystery spinner

Avesh K - can bowl at a variety of stages

Others in the squad (15 members?)

Mayank - can play in both top order (#1-3) and middle order (#4-7)

Arshdeep - left arm pace option if needed in the 11. Can be good at the death

Bishnoi - leg spinner

Harshal - in form death over bowler

I have picked more bowlers so they can be rotated per opposition. I want the batsman to be given a consistent run of 3-4 games.

3 reserves

Samson - in form, can keep, and good in UAE

Malik - wild card pace bowler ... or D Chahar

Axar/R Chahar/Chahal/... - a spinner

^ you think BCCI will replace the captain and vice captain  get real bro.

Why would I bother to pick BCCI’s team? :dontknow:  … I am not even sure if any changes will be made apart from injury related. We could lose a T20 tournament even before the first ball is bowled with Kohli and Rohit (not ideal T20 batsmen anymore), KL (my orange cap), Bhuvi, Ashwin, Axar, … :((

Yuzi and Thakur must be in 15 man squad. That will be my two selection change before 10th Oct.

I will have Pandya in my squad but that doesn't guarantee his spot if he doesn't bowl.

So you would drop KL Rahul not just from the starting XI, but the squad, in favor of "Gaikwad".

Kuch bhi.

Picking "in form" players like Umran, Harshal etc.  Wah.

I would pick KL if I want Ind to be at around 100 at 15-16 overs mark v Pak and NZ, while being 100 at 11-12 overs mark against BD, AFG, and the associate team  :dontknow:

You are conflating ODI Rahul and T20 Rahul.

Gaikwad - Play positive cricket

BTW gaikwad isnt that fast either

  • His s/r is 132 in IPL, KL, Rohit nm kohli all have bettter s/r then him in international
  • even during his last centaury he was batting at 38 from 35 balls by 12th over and by end of PP he was 20 in 19 balls
  • Also he play huge % of dot balls in PP

49 % DOT BALLS

Watch his innings carefully, he also accelerates after 10 overs

These will be my changes

Bowling- We covered spin in 1st selection but pace dept was lacking then also. With current pitches its very clear that u need hit the deck kind of fast bowlers.
We can kill some teams with Spin attack but we also need pace attack plan for some teams so need to boost the pace attack

1. Siraj in for Bhuvi - Bhuvi has been one of the best t20 bowlers - all situation bowler but his fitness has hampered his game. Currently looking very harmless having no movement n no pace. Like for like wud be a bowler who can bowl in all situations and it has to be Siraj. Siraj hasnt picked a lot of wkts this IPL but he has bowled very well.

2. Avesh Khan for Shami - Shami has never been good in t20 and it still stands , neways we need someone who can hit hard lengths which shami isnt very strong at. Avesh has been excellent this IPL and in both Indian and UAE leg which shows performance across different pitches. Players like Pollard, Maxwell, Russell need to targetted with pace n hard lengths

3. Thakur for one of SLA- Jadeja has been exceptional in this n last IPL, Axar has done very well with ball but left a lot to be desired with bat. Jadeja will go ahead as Package in that case, harsh on Axar but thats how it is. These conditions again have prved out to be perfect for shardul in white ball and he is making a strong case with ball itself.

4. Rahul chahar vs Chahal - Leave it on captain coz at the end he has to use the bowler. Rahul like his team hasnt had a good IPL but he was picked in 1st place for his quality . Chahal has never been bad in white ball infact he has been pretty good (apart from recent  yr or so dip in form ).

Confusing choice , let captain take his call coz at the end he wud be using him I wont make this choice since i have respect for both bowlers

Another change - ill change reserves

  1. Arshdeep ahead of Deepak chahar- these pitches arent working for swing bowlers so go for left arm variety . I rate deepak very highly in t20 but cricket is a game of conditions
  2. Umran malik- Keep him as wild card

(more then IPL form these 2 changes are done more for variety purpose)

Batting-

  1. Hardik vs Iyer vs Kishen - Need to select 2 batsman

Ill write pros n cons of each

Ishan kishen

Pros

  • Can bat at any position
  • High s.r batsman
  • Gamechanger
  • Extra Wk
  • Left hander

Cons

  • Struggle to adapt on different pitches
  • A lot of matchups showed that spin has bothered him

Shreyas iyer

Pros

  • Reliable for 140-150 kind of surfaces - this is a huge factor coz till now in 3 ground 90% pitches have been like that
  • Good form
  • Good player of finger spinners

Cons

  • Short ball problem
  • Problem against quick wrist spin
  • No extra dimension
  • Cannot bat anywhere
  • Bats at low tempo then even our top 3

Hardik Pandya

Pros

  • High s/r batsman
  • Can bat from 3-7 anywhere
  • Game changer

Cons

  • Hard length problem
  • Not bowling
  • Pitches not suiting power hitters
  • Biggest and new one- his stance has created a new problem this yr- full length balls which he use to dispatch
One problem is fine but when u have more then few then u can be caught by good teams (too many problems has been the reason i hve never rated iyer)

Final conclusion-

Kishen has to many pros so he is final

Iyer vs Pandya  - Cant believe im doing this and no one wud be ill go with iyer as of now coz conditions are in favour of him.  Pandya can be shifted to reserves

Now some conditions to be applied

If pandya starts bowling - ill reconsider this whole choice between 3

If pitches will be good to bat (dont know how but) Iyer is out
