Discussing Shubman Gill, the T20 batsman

Dont know why we need him when we have batsmen like Ishan who can open. Gill can focus on ODIs and Tests. 

 

India has so many options now, no reason why we cannot have horses for courses

ODIs and Tests, yes, not in T20s, we have so much talent available for the shorter format, horses for courses as someone above said.

Clown? He is your next all format captain. If we only go by IPL, then we must bring Rayudu and Utthappa back and make MSD captain.

International T20 is irrelevant unless it is world T20.  I don't even mind India sending a completely noob team for T20 matches.

Don't think he is all format Captaincy material..  Maybe in Test cricket he can in future.  Only format he can stave off Guys like Paddikal Kishan & Ruturaj Shaw. 

I think we will have much much superior options in coming years once Rohit Kohli are gone & we would have groomed someone young n dynamic.  As of now Pant is front runner & if he gets his sh*** together in ODI & T20s he will run away with it....  Guys like Shaw Kishan in 2-3 years time are wild cards as they both have led in U19 World cups.

He should focus on ODI and Test matches, there are better batters in India for  T20.

Very disappointing that a player like him had such a huge mental barrier at 22. I would rather watch him playing a rash shot at zero than tuk-tuking like last season. He displayed some shot making ability in 2019 as well but something happened in last two seasons. Today's was his greatest knock so far.

Top knock today. He will be fine in T20s too. Now only time will tell if he becomes a Manish Pandey/Ajinkya Rahane level bat or improve as much to become a Kohli/Shreyas level anchor. I think these modern era players will do enough to end up with strike rate of 130 or close.

Mental issues can be sorted out but Nagarkoti's height will stop him from getting to the highest level. Mavi- don't know where to start, he needs better mentors more than anything.

mental issues are not so easy to sort out. If shaw had better discipline and worked hard on conquering his technical weaknesses, he would have been a regular for Ind in shorter formats. as it stands, he has regressed quite a bit, and is not looking good even in IPL so far.

Batted well for his 96 and should have got 100 however he got a lot of freebies yesterday. full marks for making most of such deliveries but he has to be tested against better t20 attacks.

He should bat at 3 in ODIs in place of Kohli and Shaw should come in place of Dhawan.

A talented but selfish batsman. Needs to work on his endurance. Gets exhausted after an hour or so, and then either relapses into his selfish stats-padding or plays loose shot and get out.

he went from having a SR of 180+ to barely over 160 as he neared his 100. needs to be careful not to become one more tuk-tuk stats padder.

 

however, all things considered, both his 80+ scores were wonderful knocks. ideally suited for Oz conditions IMO

It is a misconception that it was selfish batting. More down to lack of endurance and also lacks the ability to hit the old ball as he is not much of power hitter. Relies on timing and finding gaps, easier to do with the powerplays on and new ball in and then plays spin very well too but in death overs, he struggles because of limitation of power hitting and clearing the boundary by hitting down the ground.
