Discussing Shubman Gill, the T20 batsman

Recommended Posts

Shubman Gill's in last four IPL matches-

57(51) chasing 119

56(44) setting target

29(18) chasing 139

46(46) chasing 139

Four consecutive matches where he played exactly how the situation required him to. He looked out of sorts in earlier matches but looks to have discovered his form. Only disappointment is he couldn't didn't stay till the end in any of the matches, although he got out with less than 20 required in the last two matches.

I made this thread because someone was comparing his innings last night to that of Dhawan's. That's not just one person but many are unnecessarily critical of his batting in last few matches.

If he had failed in any of these matches, KKR would have lost it with their non-existent middle order. Any runs scored in this situation are worth gold. Among all batsmen, only Venkatesh has scored more "pressure runs" than him among all teams. KKR's turnaround in the second half of this IPL is historic and he and Venkatesh are architects of it.

Their performance should be talked about more.

For all those worried about his strike, his peak will arrive anywhere between 26-28 years of his age. He will be unstoppable then, in all the formats. He has the prerequisites for T20s as well.

He doesn't have weakness against a particular type of balling, the timing is impeccable, dot ball percentage is on the lower side. Just needs to improve running. Power will come as the muscles develop. He is not playing half-hearted heaves like last year. His ceiling in T20 is higher than Kohli's. Just wait.

Babbar can't play those Innings Shubman played in Australia.

Lol yea. Babbar can only dream of playing such innings.

Hell chewt kohli could never do what Gill did. Chewt never helped us win a game in such manner.

Gill set the tone as an opener despite being suited for middle order.

Gill needs to learn how to construct his inns well.  He can be a gun ODI player for us.  But sadly for him until Rohit Kohli are here he can't find his spot in the team.

Big no as a T20 Batsman...  India will continue produce T20 bashers through IPl.  Guys like Ishan Kishan & Shaw Paddikal are much superior stroke players.  Jaiswal will join the ranks soon.

Test cricket will be dude's best format once he gets to bat at 3 4 or 5.  He should play 1st test in Wanderers this December over anyone.  His backfoot stroke play is superior than every Indian player in Test team.

He's doing fine as a limited overs batsman. A 400 runs+ IPL season is just the sort of push he needed to evolve further as a T20 batsman.

He will be leading the group of core players around whom our team's transition to the next generation will be done. Likely to be India's all format captain in the next 3-4 years
