India's team against NZ and the strategy?

What lessons have been learnt?

 

Does India need to strengthen it's batting more by bringing Ishaan, or should India strengthen it's bowling  by bringing Shardul + Ashwin in the team?

 

India was also missing the 6th bowling option today. 

 

But Ishaan could be helpful in negating the left arm bowling of Boult. 

 

 

1st Option:

As far as the team selection is concerned, then the first option is as following. 

 

1. Ishaant instead of out of form SYK, 
2. Shardul instead of Bhuvi (while Shardul can also bat)
3. Ashwin instead of Pandya. (while Ashwin could also hold the bat too). 

 

The combined batting abilities of Shardul + Ashwin could replace the combined batting abilities of Pandya + Bhuvi. 

While the combined bowling abilities of Shardul + Ashwin are better then Bhuvi + Pandya

 

2nd Option is:

1. Bring Ishaan instead of Pandya (i.e. to keep SKY too in the team along with Ishaan). This will strengthen the batting line up, but bowling line up will be missing the 6th bowling option.
2. Even if Varun is also replaced by Ashwin, still the 6th bowling option is missing. 
3. Bhuvi could also be replaced by Shardul. 

 

3rd option is: 

1. Don't change the batting combination, and only change the bowlers  ... i.e.  Shardul instead of bhuvi and/or Ashwin instead of Varun.

 

Who should bat at No. 3 ? 

Ishaan or Kohli?

 

Bowling Combination:

1. Who should start the attack? Most probably it should be Shammi. 
2. Which other bowlers should be used in the power play? 
   Varun? 
   If Shardul and Ashwin could also bowl in the power play?

It is wrong to suggest SKY is out of form. I don't think you watched the IPL towards the latter stages and the warm-up games.

 

Frankly, I don't see much reason to change except Hardik and Bhuvi. The rest of the team just underperformed today. I don't think the bowling was upto the mark and most days these guys deliver. Not today. So it was an off day.

Sky played one good knock in a nothing to lose situation.  It was propelled by Ishan.

Precisely, Hardik’s fitness seems to have been a problem for long now. Don’t understand what he is doing batting below Jaddu. If the team doesn’t trust him to bat ahead of Jaddu then he shouldn’t be in the team as he isn’t going to bat. Will get Ishan in his place.

 

bhuvi has been bad for some time now, please end his misery. Thakur in his place.

Agreed. I was not happy when I heard our captain saying at the toss about the 4 players who were sitting out. I was aghast when I heard Thakur's name! I was really hoping Pandya was asked to sit out until his bowling was sorted out.

 

Shami, I thought was picking wickets in the PP in the IPL. Correct me, if it was not consistently the case.

Note that SDP (Hardik) had the highest SR for India in the game despite only batting in the last 2 overs without getting his eye in. Got out going for a 6 on a difficult ball (no option). Without his boundaries including producing an overthrow, Ind would not have even reached 150.

As for the 11, does not matter who Ind plays. Just go out and play positive cricket. 
 

NZ could stifle Ind too with smart bowling changes.

NZ should lose to pak... that will put pressure on Nz and will help us.

if pak wins against nz hopefully we can emulate that.

In T20s I don't see India batting at a high SR when batting first. Even if we don't lose wickets, we have too many players who want to play the unnecessary sheet anchor role.

Our entire bowling was off color yesterday... Except for Shardul, we dont have a backup pacer too. In the absence of Pandya bowling, it will be difficult to find a bowling combination which can work in conditions affected by dew.

He was good in IPL, but his general T20I record is not good for a player like Shami.

Strategy is simple. Lose the toss and get ripped open by Boult, Let Williamson take NZ home aramse. Have a laugh with KW post match. Rinse and repeat. This is what has been happening with NZ encounters.

Ashwin should come in for Chakraborty if at all and not for Pandya we don't  have like for like replacement for Pandya in the squad. Bhuvi should definitely be replaced by Shardul.
