QuarantineTormentino Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 (edited) Now that India are all but out of this tournament, let’s look at some of the factors determining our early exit: 1. high quality opposition 2. poor scheduling 3. toss factor 4. selection of final World Cup squad 5. poor captaincy 6. mental and physical unpreparedness and exhaustion/bubble fatigue 7. group seeding (3 strong + 3 weak teams as opposed to the group of death) 8. Others how much percentage weightage would you assign to each of these factors in terms of the significance of their contribution? (Total 100%) Edited November 6, 2021 by QuarantineTormentino
vvvslaxman Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 India picked a squad based on reputation not form. KL Rahul was probably the only inform player there. But he exhausted all his form in the warm up games. He chickened out in the crucial games. Rohit was not in touch in the IPL, Sky was not in touch bar one match, Kohli wasn't exactly great either. Pant kept coming down the order and didn't exactly light up the IPL, Pandya least deserving guy to be picked in the squad. Basically it was KL Rahul or bust team. Bowlingwise Bumrah is not quiet the same anymore in T20. Shami too old to play this format. Bhuvi was extremely poor with his speeds in the IPL. Even in the warm up he got cartered around. Jaddu is capable of bowling only in the safe zone. Can't be banked anywhere else. Basically a squad full of poor performers. To top it all we had a pathetic captain in Kohli. 151 was defendable with aggressive field set and strategies. Our bowlers kept bowling legside deliveries. That was a nightmarish captaincy. Kane williamson would have definitely made a game out of 151. QuarantineTormentino, Khota, speedheat and 3 others 1 3 2
nevada Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 They went AWOL in both the games that mattered. As for fatigue - the team looked just fine in the warm-up games. I am not buying the tiredness excuse. Mental midgetry and panic at the slightest hint of pressure did us in. The toss was unkind to us as usual, but the utter lack of fight in both the games is inexcusable. Afraid of a hit to their brand values, now the players are dazzling against minnows to regain some goodwill. Yesterday one of the commentators wondered why India doesnt play such fearless cricket always instead of only when there's nothing left to lose. That sums up the root cause of our team's malaise. Pollack Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 My conspiracy mind says team intentionally underperformed to screw Kohli. Now they are playing good to save their places.
SK_IH Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Overall pathetic performance, choked in big matches as expected.

Norman Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Abysmal.. If Afghanistan don't beat NZ tomorrow, these wins in the last 2 games will do us more harm than good. BCCI PR is already working overtime to mask those humiliations against pak and NZ. Shami, Jadeja, Kohli, Rohit will all be back again in Australia next year. Indwin and addicted4444 1 1

Many posters here are blaming Kohli the captain alone for this debacle, he won't be the captain next time, so According to them things should improve even if these players remain in the team.

He deserves the lion's share of the blame for not having built a team that believes their positions are intact. When the captain rules like this, it is bound to affect the team at some point. addicted4444 1

You can give him the world beaters in LOI he still can mess it up.

There were flashes for the last 4 years, now we are seeing parallels to that. Good news is he is moving on, hopefully even from ODI captaincy.

cricketfan28 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 failure of sarma and kl in important matches .. things would have been very different had they clicked.

Think So , Should atleast qualify for knockouts which we will not do under Kohli this time
jusarrived Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 We are an average team, most of the team is not suited for T20 format . Hardly a surprise for me that we are not making the semis

If they had done well against Nz and Pak, good chance would have failed in semis . So I don't think things we'd have been very different in the end.
Khota Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Poor metrics used for tem selection. Keeping Dhawan out and playing Pandya and VC. Long story short a very very poor team was picked.
speedheat Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 I'd call it pathetic, especially that rat Rahul, who has gone missing in crucial matches and is now batting like a Bradman against minnows.
