Shaheen Afridi & Zaheer Khan (Both left armers, but while Zak dominated LH batsmen, Shaheen Afridi is dominated by LH batsmen). What explains such lop sided dominance ?

Zak totally had the wood over Left hand batters -dominated the prolific likes of Greame Smith and Haydos - almost getting into their head.

While LH batsmen have no trouble dominating Shaheen, who is phenomenal against RH batsmen with new ball.

Zak swung the ball away from LH batsmen while Shaheen brings it in late to the RH batsmen

In both instances the ball is swinging in the same direction but from different lines ( RHB vs. LHB )

Does it mean that neither had absolutely mastery over line to both the Left Handers and the Right Handers ?

Can some one explain this technically ?

You must also factor in that Zaheer Khan never had the physical ability to bowl fast, so he compensated that with a tactical brain by setting up a batsman and bowling the delivery he would least expect the next ball, outfoxing him.

Shaheen Afridi is a natural fast bowler who relies on sheer pace and late swing instead of doing the thinking part.

Jokes apart, I'd like to see him bowl with same intensity he bowled this world cup throughout his career.

That intensity is difficult to mantain in tests ,coz test match is absorbing, its easier to maintain that in t20's considering u know u have to only bowl four overs

While I enjoyed watching Zak bowl with new ball..  But not sure how good he was lefties.

Shaheen has good numbers vs left hand batsmen in limited overs from what I have seen.

It's just that our subcontinent bowlers are not used to batsman scoring scoop shots on a bowler bowling 140k+...

Those shots delivered by Wade will be etched in memory forever.

I wish our Indian batsman also start playing those strokes...  Instead of usual slogging they do at the death with minimal results.

You need talent & skill to pull those off..

B Mac scooped Shaun tait bowling 150 kph consecutively once.  You needs guts & skill as Simple as that.

Zaheer was smashed away to oblivion by Raina in IPL while playing for RCB....If there is no movement it is easier to take on the angle by LHBs

thats why boult trundler averages 37 in india. no movement on offer then he will be taken to the cleaners. cant believe ro ko got out to him in U.A.E of all places. pathetic.

Zaheer use reverse swing and utilise different angles of the pitch to pick wickets

While Shaheen depends on sheer pace to pick wickets and also Shaheen is not experienced  it was poor captaincy to make him bowl in death overs not that he cannot handle left handers

Shaheen is barely 2.5 years into playing international cricket.

Was Zac dominating lefties in 2002?

If I am not wrong, he came into his own around 2005,06 after some county stints. That is when he became a canny operator.

Plus, Shaheen doesn't struggle against lefties. He has a good record against them.

It is just that he tries to overattack which I dont mind, but sometimes in the death that can lead to what happened against Wade.

Which lefties did Zak dominate?

Hayden had great record against India and so did Sanga.Strauss scored twin centuries at Chennai in 2008.

Wickets summary
Grouping Span Dis bwd c fie c wk st lbw hw Ave 0s

right-hand batter 2000-2014 178 27 71 46 0 33 1 29.75 22
left-hand batter 2000-2014 133 29 42 32 0 30 0 26.48 18

Zak was decent against lefites at best.

Thing with average bowlers is that whatever aspects they are decent in, it seems like dominance.

Similar to what was hyped about Anderson. Steyn was considered relatively weaker against lefties and Anderson was equally good against both. But performance was Steyn was still more dominant than Anderson when it comes to lefties. It just that he was beast against right handed batters and hence the myth which was propagated by English media to hype up Anderson wrt Steyn.

Zak did very well in 2011 WC and even then I remember Strauss scoring big century v India. Zak eventually took him out at 158 and India. Zak also got Smith early in WC though.

Was it Zak only who got thrashed by Tamim Iqbal? Sanath, Gilchrist all had dominated him.

Sanga 144

Neesham 137

There is a long list of lefties whose innings hurt Indian team when Zak was playing.

Most Pakistanis bowlers are good in T20 because they run out of gas after 4-6 overs usually. Shaheen gets tonked after his first 2 usually.

Let Shaheen accomplish something in ODis or tests and then we can compare him with Zaheer.

Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi are legendary T20 bowlers too but who cares.
