So what is the hype about Deepak Chahar?

Looks like a very average trundler to me. On top of that he also got a touch of Pandya'isque arrogance.

Why is he being hyped up and picked in every series?

My issue is we are again backing wrong players. Bowlers like him wont do zilch in Australia where the next world cup is

But but he can tonk a few.

Because of conventional "logic" that looks for a bit of batting from the 5 bowlers in T20.  Given that Siraj doesn't bat at all, and Bhuvi's batting is only effective in tests, Dravid the 'good student' went by the book and picked Chahar over Avesh to "tick the boxes".

Given India's skill resources you absolutely do not pick both Bhuvi and Chahar for a T20 XI.   Its not rocket science.

Not a great start to Dravid's coaching tenure. Maybe its a one-off. Let's see.

Good multi dimensional cricketer. Should be backed. Cant cry about lack of such players and then when we get one we dump them after 2 games.

Chahar has a lot more upside than Dube,Shankar,Bhuvi  and dare I say even Venky Iyer at the moment (needs more opportunities). A proper swing bowler who can give you 4 overs and capable of batting at 7.

Yes he maybe a little average  right now  but if he takes him game up by 1 point, he will be a very important clog in the side.

Think they might be giving both games in a shootout to eventually pick one.

Nothing much to think about. Chahar is fitter, faster, a better batsman and has more years left in him. I will pick him in a heartbeat.

Going by the number of admirers Bhuvi has in our cricket officialdom, this is no competition at all. Bhuvi will get picked ahead of everyone else even if he's half fit. Others will get discarded after a couple of bad games.

There aren't many good t20 pacers in India, that's the reality.

Only Bumrah and Bhuvi are world class,

Agree India's white ball bowling is very average for quite a long time...since Kul-Cha jodi is broken. Our batting has been bailing the team out

Can someone enlighten me where I can find some examples of Chahar's much hyped batting prowess?
