KKR retaining Venkatesh Iyer should be a no-brainer..  VC and Narine also make a lot of sense.. 

Russell hasn't done much recently.. Should be a toss up between him and Gill

 

CSK will look to buy back Faf.. He might not get much traction in the auction due to his age and that he doesn't play for SA any more

They might be interested in Ashwin as well, local player with experience

Will buy an international fast bowler close to base price (like they did with Hazelwood, Ngidi, Wood etc)

 

MI retentions are on expected lines

 

Rahul being captain of Lucknow was also on expected lines

 

DC - no surprise in Pant, Shaw and Nortje retentions..  Axar is a bit of a surprise.. I was expecting Stoinis/Hetmyer to be retained

Ali > Du Plessis from a retention stand-point. It is a strategic decision.. Du Plessis might go cheaper in the auction than Ali..  Ali is a current player, all-rounder, so will go for more in the auctions.

MI got Rohit and Bumrah who are not disposable. Pollard is retained as expected. It looks like they prefer Kishan over SKY. I think that is weird as Kishan did not even play all games and they were finding it hard to slot him in batting order.

 

DD has got Pant, Shaw as expected but I though Dhawan doing so well with bat and in the field will be retained. but he got to go.

Why would franchise retain likes of shardul, duplesis, arshdeep who can be bought in auction at lower price. Only high profile names will be retained, players who can get big amounts in auction. All else will be released.
