rangeelaraja Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 We have Sri Lanka and Australia visiting next. Amazing to see that even Aussies at their best were not as dominant in their backyard. If we make it 20, it would be as invincible as Bradman's batting average IMO - twice as much as the next best ( by supposedly the GOAT test team ) https://www.timesnownews.com/sports/cricket/article/14-0-at-home-in-tests-breaking-down-invincible-indias-record-extending-win-over-new-zealand/838145 Most consecutive Test series wins at home: Team Consecutive series wins From To India 14* Feb-13 - Australia 10 Nov-94 Nov-00 Australia 10 Jul-04 Nov-08 West Indies 8 Mar-76 Feb-86 England 7 May-09 May-12 South Africa 7 Mar-98 Nov-01 India's invincible Test series journey: Series Number of Tests Result 2012-2013 - India v. Lone Wolf Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Australia will be a threat yet again.. If tri murti is still there I wouldn't be surprised they end our hard earned streak. nevada 1

I still think we will win 2-1 though but yes it is certainly possible with a non existent middle order.

Trichromatic Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 As long as Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar are playing, India team will keep winning. Lord, Norman, Vijy and 1 other 1 3
Trichromatic Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Aussies were hugely dependent on McGrath to win their matches. Luckily McGrath was fit enough to play most of the matches.

Vijy Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 prepare the "right" (i.e., turning) pitches, and unleash Ash+Axar+Jaddu + Sundar (who should bat in top 5/6) and then we can continue to steamroll teams in the foreseeable future.
Trichromatic Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 1 hour ago, Laaloo said: Difference in that 2004 series they won in India was Gillespie. At home. Aus played mostly on flat, bouncy tracks and if McGrath couldn't do well, others would also fail to do much.
neel roy Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 (edited) India will win 3-0. Bookmark this post. India is exactly going to give the mumbai style pitches to aus and not kanpur. Also matches wont be in December so no bad light. If jaddu axar ashwin play together I don’t even see them even lasting 5 days. Warner cant play ashwin. Smith is the only threat and if we dont give them a rank turner we will win. What we need is a pitch with bounce. And we need umesh siraj bumrah shami rotated for the 4 matches.the Australian bowlers tire easily in heat. So even if we are 115/4 axar ashwin jaddu combo along with pant can take us to 280. Once we are at that score difficult to beat india. Even in the deadest of kanpur pitches we still got 19 wickets where the ball was coming so slow you could take a nap. And then what happened. Just a bit of bounce and you had nz 62 all out in mumbai. Edited January 1, 2022 by neel roy

I think our team was in better shape in 2017 going through our best run of form at home. We had steamrolled England 4-0 prior to this series on sporting tracks. Current squad barely survived England at home thanks to some individual brilliance of Pant Sundar & Rohit. Most of Australian players will arrive in their prime.. Warner may perhaps retire before this tour. Their debutant Renshaw also troubled us by copying Hayden. This is going to be a close contest.

I wish I could share your over the top optimism. The bowlers will always do their job at home. But batsmen also need to do their part. With 3 passengers in the middle order, we can’t always get lucky. We can’t win if rat-pujara-rahane average sub 30 with the bat in the series like they have for a long long time. We are not playing some minnow. You are totally discounting our pathetic middle order batting. Under_Score and Vijy 1 1

I don't think Oz batting is comparable to 2017. Marnus is unproven yet in SC, and Smith is showing some signs of fading. Moreover, the addition of Axar has been a huge bonus, especially on certain types of pitches. While he does not spin the ball much, he has relentless accuracy, subtle variations in pace and flight, better bounce (thanks to height), and quicker pace, which prevents batters from sweep/cut. I agree that our batting is not up to the mark. On spin pitches, I'd like to see this lineup play: 1. Mayank, 2. Rohit (if fit)/Gaekwad, 3. KLR, 4. Gill/ Kohli (only if he rediscovers form), 5. Shreyas Iyer/W. Sundar, 6. Pant, 7. Jaddu, 8., Ashwin, 9., Jaddu, 10. Shami/Umesh, 11. Siraj/Boom 5 bowling options (6 if Sundar plays); batting till 9; most of players can handle spin. This team can do well and comfortably beat Ozzies in principle.
adi B Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Smith not in good form is a big worry for Australia. He is the only player that can be a thorn in the foot for us. Our bowling attack is probably the most lethal I have seen in test cricket in home conditions , 3 dangerous spinners and 4 dangerous fast bowlers . As bad as our batting is playing trimurti might prove fatal in one of the games ,but not more than that
Lord Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 when is the Aus tour? are dates finalised? Arent WI and BD touring us too. Those should be easy wins and opportunity to play backups

You are totally discounting our pathetic middle order batting. see why i am optimistic is india bats till no 9 in home conditions. If india bat first and even if we lose wickets the Sg Ball gets soft by over 30. Our lower middle order of Pant jadeja axar umesh can easily get runs and by the time new ball comes we will be 240 as indian grounds are small and we can score fast. Once 250 is crossed in indian conditions the opposition team gets defensive. They then start keeping the deep fine leg back long off back and deep mid wicket. They operate with 2 slips and a gully. When you visualise this field you can see that we wont get boundaries but we can take singles at will stretching our total to 300. And then with ashwin axar jaddu hunting in pairs after umesh or siraj or shami initial burst aus wont be able to take more than 40 runs lead even with them playing out of their skin batting. Indian batting rarely fails twice in a home match ( once in last 12 yrs against aus in pune minefield.. even the 3 losses against england 2012, 2021 we scored 300 in wt least one innings in all the 3 tests ) .. so we will anyways make 225/230 giving them a 180/190 run target (bangalore 2017 kinds) 4th innings chase with ashwin jaddu axar spinning balls like a top and close in fielders screaming.. it’s difficult sir very difficult to survive…

I look it it like this - how many runs do we need cumulatively ( 1st +2nd innings ) to win , given our formidable spin bowling ? We can break it down as 350 ( 1st ) + 250 ( 2nd innings ) or 400/200 ....either way it is 600 runs in 2 innings against a world class side at home. We can't expect Ashwin, Jaddu to bail us our with the bat also all the time. If the average of the top 6 is going to be 35 odd with the bat...as has been for sometime, give or take ....thats a mere 210 runs. Somehow our tail managed 70-80 runs but it is not going to happen all the time. Also our bowlers will also have a few bad days and may need more from the batsmen sometimes. We are on thin ice i feel, we need a solid reliable top 6. Cannot expect bowlers to also now bail us out with the bat also all the time. Under_Score 1

How many of these instances have us losing the toss fielding 1st at home and the opposition raking 350+ in the 1st innings ? Do you trust us to chase 200 plus in the 4th innings at home ? I think we should not assume that Aussies are not going to be be aware of everything that we know to be our home advantage with 3 lethal spinners. They will come prepared. If we don’t get our middle order batting optimized and lose most tosses ( and end chasing in 4th innings )… we are in big trouble. Under_Score 1
