javier26 Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 (edited) India will look to win their first ever series in South Africa when they play the Cape Town Test. https://sports.ndtv.com/south-africa-vs-india-2021-22/india-vs-south-africa-fortress-cape-town-could-well-be-team-indias-final-frontier-2699598 Edited January 10, 2022 by javier26
Majestic Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 The current SA team is at same level to Zimbabwe of 90s. Past record don't matter. nevada 1
zen Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 (edited) “Current” dynamics in play I would like an analysis based on today’s factors including pitch, form of players, and team combination. But yeah, a good record at a venue can give a team confidence, knowing that the venue fits in with its traditional style of play. Edited January 10, 2022 by zen
Majestic Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 2018 Capetown was such a farce. We had them 3 down at 12 on Day 1 pitch. de Villiers got just enough runs in both innings to take the game away.
putrevus Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 How is this team same level as 1990s Zimbabwe. This SA team has world class bowling attack. It has ability to take 20 wickets against any team past or present in SA conditions. Clarke 1

Lone Wolf Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 (edited) Not sure any Asian side has won in Newlands. Pakistan has 2 wins each in Durban & PE. Sri lanka has 3 wins 2 in Durban & 1 in PE. India has 4 wins.. 2 in Joburg 1 in Durban 1 in Centurion. Poms beat them in Cape Town in 2019 before that Aussies won the decider in 2014 under Clarke... Classic test match. Jaffer scored a ton in 2011 here.. We probably would have won had Kallis not been dropped. Could have been GOAT series win under Dhoni. Edited January 10, 2022 by Lone Wolf

Tendlya struggling against debutant Paul Harris was one reason. Another reason was shuffling of batting in the 2nd innings. Sehwag at his very worst form at that time. So he was batting in the middle order. After making a 40 in the first innings, they decided to push him up and push the inform Karthik down. It backfired big time. Lone Wolf 1

Our batting is actually very good as far as subcontinent and Australian conditions are concerned. Forget the Rohits, Mayanks and Pant, even our backup keeper Saha, debutants like Iyer and Sundar and bowling A/R like Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar score a lot of runs in home conditions. Guys like Gill and Pant scored runs in Australia in their first tour. Kohli, Pujara, Rahane all average well in Australia. Only in SEN, it is miserable but that is when compared to the Indian batting of 2000s. We have this tendency of comparing our batting with other sides in their backyard but preferably it should be overall in all conditions. It is still one of the better batting lineups in the world. New Zealand get bundled up easily in Australian conditions, England are Root or bust with their second best batsman being Stokes averaging 36, South Africa don't have any batsman with a better batting average than Herschelle Gibbs. Australian batters are also unproven overseas barring Smith. Warner has been bouncy pitches bully who has failed in each of England, India and NZ. Vijy 1

I don't think at any point of time India had 3,4,5 batting with an average of mid 20s for 2 or 3 years. Most of our recent wins in SENA were due to batting from lower order. There are some surfaces you have to outbat the opposition. Surfaces where bowlers get less purchase. 3/4/5 have not scored a century between them in the last 100 innings. There lies the problem. Bowlers cannot repeatedly cover the ass of batsmen. There are situations where batsmen have to cover the ass of bowlers. With two properly equipped batting line up Wanderers would have been a draw. Both SA and India suck with batting. Just that SA sucked less. Norman and Vijy 2

bahadur_billa Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Average first innings score has been around 350 in first class games since 2020. Also spinners have done well here.
ShoonyaSifar Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 What final frontier? Our so called GOAT captain has nothing to prove to anyone. In his mind, he's won everything that he can. No such final fontiers matter to him. These terms are being created by his haters to pull him down

SA in their own condition is never going to be a bad team. One or two series losses does not make it a bad team even during their rebuilding years.Rabada might end up as one of their best bowlers in their history.
Vijy Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 1st innings in breaching this fortress has not begun well
