IPL Auction 2022- Team Reviews (quality of IPL will suffer this year)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Like every year here is my Review of every team post Auction, Will do another one before IPL begins coz by that time teams wud have gone through some changes due to injury or exchange and i wud have known more about some unknown players

Starting with

1. SRH- I feel they can be the RR of this season

FLfZFoRaIAAqMyd?format=jpg&name=large

  First XI Backup
1 Abhishek Sharma
2 Markaram
3 Williamson
4 Tripathi
5 Pooran Glenn philips
6 Abdul samad
7 Shepard Jansen/ Abbott
8
Gopal/Succith/ Sundar

9 Tyagi
10 Umran malik
11 Bhuvi/Natrajan

X factor- Malik, Tyagi, pooran, Samad , Shepard

  • If they let their youngsters play freely like RR did under warne, they will be a team to watch out for.
  • They lack experience which will hamper them at some stage
  • Use players acc to their strength - abhishek is good in PP, Markram is best against pace, Williamson-Samad both shud be floaters, Tripathi can destroy spin
  • Use samad like RR used yusuf, send him anytime n tell him to have a blast
  • Gopal has declined massively as bowler so dnt play him just coz he is  wrist spinner
  • Great captain
  • So many X factor players
  • Good indian pace unit

@maniac- how wud u rate ur fav side ?

Copy pasting my post from other thread of mine.

Delhi Capitals-

Has a solid and consistent batting core. Shaw+Warner+Marsh+Pant is a dream top order. Perfect mix of flamboyance and temperament. Mustafizur and Kuldeep at 2cr each are steals. Bowling maybe weaker than last year but better than most other teams. Bench strength is too good with Khaleel and Nagarkoti

CSK-

Definitely better and younger than last year. Inclusion of Maheesh Theekshana may strengthen the bowling. No X-factor players apart from him. I hope they use Hari Nishanth, Jagdeeshan etc, rather than washed up oldies. Otherwise not going to do well.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat Titans)-

Have the best bowling in my opinion. They have a leg spinner, and off-spinner, a left armer, and three good pace options. Batting is inexperienced + captain's own form is a question. Good all-rounders but where are batsman?

SRH-

Lacks a big hitter at death. Samad is still a new commodity. Needed one firestarter at top. Abhishek/Markram+Williamson is too old style. For the first time though, they employed two real quick pacers rather than slow or medium pacers.

Mumbai-

Solid top four+Pollard and Tim for slog overs. Targeted only specific players as always. Have only specialist T20 pace bowlers and not the hyped ones. As dominating as always. But does not have backups for their great batsmen.

Lucknow Supergaints-

Had some inexplicably bad buys. Krunal Pandya for 8cr+, retaining Stoinis for 11. Who plays Holder in T20s?

Batting, apart from openers and Stoinis, is weak. Bowling is weak as well with just Bishnoi standing out. Avesh will be good only if he gets good support from others.

KKR-

Overpayed for every player but still couldn't find required combination. Who will be their second opener, Rana? They tried to find solution in Iyer when Iyer himself was the problem with Delhi. Better than last year but that's not saying much. Alex Hales(late inclusion) may add some value.

Punjab-

Has a fearsome batting lineup. Unless they play on dust bowls or big boundaries they are going to have a blast. Odean+Livingstone+Shahrukh is scary combo. Bowling is not great or particularly scary but will be able to defend if their clicks.

Rajasthan Royals-

They didn't need Paddikal at all. If Buttler does'nt open, they are doomed. One of Yashasvi/Paddikal has to sit out for the sake of team combination. They will get confused with so many top order batsmen. Bowling apart from Boult and Saini, is weak. Needed a speacialist T20 bowler.

RCB-

Top 3 and then burst. Need specialist batsmen than Karthik and Wanindu. They will not start with Allen and Rutherford going by their past record. Bowlers are good for sure. Hazlewood in powerplay, Wanindu in middle overs and Siraj at death will choke many teams.

Rajasthan

Delhi

Lucknow

Punjab

Hyderabad

These teams have picked really good sides.

Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata- the four most popular teams at one point would be slightly disappointed.

Now, result will obviously depend on a lot of factors here as T20 is a format of unpredictability. But on paper, those five teams look pretty solid.

Punjab- They look to have assembled a great squad, lets see how they screw this up

FLfTQhBaAAAykxA?format=jpg&name=large

  First XI
1 Dhawan
2 Mayank
3 Bairstrow
4 Livingstone
5 SRK
6 Indian batter
7 Harpreet brar
8 Odean Smith
9 Rabada
10 Rahul chahar
11 Arshdeep

X factor- Livinstone, Bairstrow, Odean smith

  • With such good squad u need a captain who can keep things simple n not mess it up
  • Livingstone - SRK pair, Liam is great against pace which SRK isnt , SRK is great against spinner which Liam gets stuck
  • Mayank n Bairstrow will be great in middle overs coz they play with intent n plays spin well
  • Mayank- dhawan- bairstrow-rabadaa all of them are very consistent players
  • It ll be great for rahul chahar to work under Kumble
  • They have good set of all rounders - livinstone, chaterjee, brar, odean , bawa

In the end i hope their owners stay away from the team

Gujarat Titans- Honestly not a good team, to many holes

FLfV4VeaAAAKGB1?format=jpg&name=large

Bowling strong XI XI with batting cushion
1 Saha Wade/Saha
2 Roy Roy
3 Gill Gill
4 Shankar Shankar
5 Hardik Hardik
6 Abhinav manohar Abhinav manohar
7 Tewatia Tewatia/ Miller
8 Rashid Khan Rashid Khan
9 Alzzari joseph/ Noor ahmed Nalkande/Sai kishore / Yash Dayal
10 Shami Shami
11 Lockie Lockie

Rather go for bowling heavy coz anyways wade n miller arent very reliable

X factor- Roy, Hardik, Rashid

  • Overseas bowling looks strong not indian
  • Roy impact player but has issues against SLA
  • Gill lacks strike rate , neither is as consistent as kohli was
  • Shankar can play anchor role but also has developed issues against leggies
  • Hardik may have to curb his aggressive batting due to such thin batting
  • Indian pace or spin options arent very good also

KKR- horrible to say the least

FLfSH92akAAp-Ki?format=jpg&name=large

Rahane vs Iyer captain

If they want to have a dummy captain well iyer is the way forward, but if they want someone to use instinct with data its rahane

X factor- Varun.C , Russsell

  With Rahane Without Rahane
1 Venky iyer Venky iyer
2 Rahane Hales (wk)
3 Nitish rana Nitish rana
4 Shreyas iyer Shreyas iyer
5 Sam billings (wk) Rinku singh/ Baba
6 Russell Russell
7 Anukul Roy Anukul Roy
8 Pat cummins Pat cummins
9 Narine Narine
10 Mavi Mavi
11 Umesh yadav Umesh yadav

  • I really had a tough time to even make their XI
  •  Narine- Varun.C combo but if they dnt build pressure at start both of them wud be ineffective
  • Not even one good t20 fast bowler- Cummins (avg), Yadav (bad), Mavi (good but can leak), Southee (can be smashed easily)
  • Too many Batsman with short ball or high pace problem -  Rana, shreyas, Russell, Sheldon jackson
  • Too many batsman with problem against wrist spin- Shreyas, Rana, Rahane
  • Russell form with bat has gone long back and he always carries injuries these days
  • Lack of depth or backups in every dept
  • Teams will comeup with a plan against Venky this year so he can have a tough time

Very very bad team

FLfTwlfaIAA9Wep?format=jpg&name=large

  First XI Backup
1 De kock Lewis
2 KL rahul
3 Manish pandey
4 Stonis Kyle mayers
5 Holder Kyle mayers
6 Hooda
7 Krunal
8 Bishnoi
9 Gowtham Nadeem
10 Avesh khan
11 Mark wood

X factor- Mark wood , Bishnoi, KL (if he bats like 2018)

  • quite a decent side
  • Lower middle order of hooda n krunal isnt great
  • uninspiring captain - KL looks to be even worse then kohli as captain
  • Strong n consistent openers- KL-dekock
  • Good set of all rounders
  • Good pace attack- wood, avesh, chameera
  • Manish pandey- he ll be a huge factor as when ever he scores a 50 , 95% of time his own team looses the game
  • Manny bowling options which cover most phases of game

X factor- Kishen, SKY, pollard, Tim david, Bumrah, Archer (next season)

  First XI
1 Kishen
2 Rohit
3 Rahul Buddhi/ Tilak verma
4 SKY
5 Pollard
6 Tim davd
7 Sanjay yadav
8 M ashwin/ MArkhande
9 Bumrah
10 Mills
11 Meredith

  • too many X factor players
  • What pace- Bumrah, meredith, mills , Archer
  • They will throw some great young talent again
  • Mills - Archer are very injury prone
  • Sams, unadkut arent really great backups
  • They have done great future investment in some young batsman this year
  • Pollard, sky and tim david thats a powerful middle order
  • This kind of batting will allow Rohit to anchor

IPL depends upon a lot of factors including form of players at the time of the tournament, when a team peaks in a competition, the fun factor and watch ability, and so on, therefore will not commend or write any team off based on how they appear on paper

RCB has often looked good on paper,  CSK not so much but has surprised, MI tended to have on and off seasons, etc.

Let’s see how the post mega auction era unfolds!

  First XI
1 Anuj rawat / Aneeshwar gautam / Shahbaz ahmed
2 Faf
3 Kohli
4 Maxwell
5 Lomror/ Shahbaz ahmed
6 DK
7 Suyyyash prabhudesai
8 Hasaranga
9 Harshal patel
10 Siraj
11 Hazelwood

  • Why the Fck wud u want Faf when u hve a similar batsman like kohli, unless they plan to make him captain
  • Batting doesnt look strong
  • Bowling is very good

lesser the quality more the chances for fringe, washed out batsmen to shine..all you need is one/two lesser quality bowlers and these guys will look like world beaters.. selectors will blindly pick them

Posted (edited)

I thought CSK asusual got themselves a bad team until i stumbled upon  GT, LSG and KKR and SRH.. these teams are not gonna be fighting for the wooden spoon and none of them are going to qualify

Punjab and MI look the best

Damn. Mumbai looks strong. Bumrah Archer daaaaamn. Add In pace of Meredith.

Meredith is an overrated/ crap product of BBL.

Bumrah and Mills probably the pace attack as Archer is unavailable this season. Rest options are pretty weak.

I like Punjab this time around. with the right selections, they can have 7-8 bowling options and batting till 9.

Dhawan/Taide (AR), Bairstow (wk), Mayank, Livingstone (AR), SRK (also part-time bowler), Bawa (AR)/prerak (AR), Odean (AR)/Howell (AR), Brar (AR), Rabada (can bat a bit), Rahul Chahar (can bat a bit),, Arshdeep/Sandeep/Porel

Cant see GT, KKR and RCB in playoffs this year. The rest seem evenly matched

SRH as well

So, it's effectively a tournament of 6 teams right at the start.. of which four will qualify..

Two additional teams always meant that the quality was going to suffer and there are clear indications of that
