deepdynamo
Following up my last year topic IPL 2021: Deadwood in the squads There were no takers for Suresh Raina, Saurabh Tiwari, Amit Mishra, Dhawal Kulkarni, Piyush Chawla, Pawan Negi, Kedar Jadhav - they are gone forever! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deadwoods IPL 2022 in my personal opinions. To be fair 90% of these are fringe players and will hardly get a game. But two new teams definitely helped few of these to prolong their careers.RCB- Karn sharma, Sid Kaul ( picked based on IPL experience of previous years)KKR - Sheldon Jackson PK- Rishi Dhawam (maybe but he had stealer 2021 domestic white ball season) CSK- Robin Uthapha ( 36 year old trusted CSK but well past his best)DC- Mandeep Singh ( IPL journeyman year after year)RR- Karun Nair MI- Unadkat ( legend never dies ) SRH- Shreyas Gopal (regressed) LSG- Manish Pandey ( he will leach around IPL for next 5 years), Nadeem, K Gowtham ( biggest fraud), M Vohra ( IPL Journeyman) GT- Saha ( new team saved him), Aaron ( seriously, picked on past reputation ), Gurkereet maan ( IPL flop for many year) Edited February 14, 2022 by deepdynamo nevada, raki05, AuxiliA and 1 other 4 Link to comment
nitinbwj
Uthappa hit some form in 2021. His sr improved to 137. Certainly not his best but he could be useful as he doesn't come with any baggage. Rest are indeed deadwoods. Vijy and deepdynamo 2 Link to comment
SK_IH
Mandeep is elite level, how the hell this guy gets a contract every year is beyond wisdom. Absolutely ordinary batsman with no T20 skills, Yusuf Pathan/Raina will be more useful than this guy at their current age. Lord, Vijy, deepdynamo and 3 others 6 Link to comment

Majestic
Virat Kohli has been the biggest IPL Deadwood between 2017-2022. Poor captain, poor batsman with only stats padding skills and push the better batsman down the order to limit his impact to some overs. Chakdephatte
None of them are as useless as the deadwoods last year. Maybe except Mandeep. Shreyas Gopal and Karn Sharma can be used against some opponents depending on matchups. Pandey is poor but not useless. Unadkut can be used under favourable conditions(not this season though.) One name I want to add in deadwoods is Deepak Hooda. deepdynamo 1 Link to comment

Uthapha can still do a job for CSK....being in CSK have prolonged his IPL career....doubt other franchise would have given him game time. CSK may start him in XI and depending on his result, he may get a fair run ( due to non selection of Raina). Link to comment

Even Rahane is not a deadwood in IPL yet. Link to comment

Others can be used based on conditions but still are very poor versions of their earlier self. Deepak Hooda is not a deadwood at all. He recently got his Indian cap and seems to improved his power hitting in last year IPL as well. Chakdephatte 1 Link to comment

Aaron- Yes Nadeem- Didn't play much Gurkeerat- Yes Karun Nair- No, better than Rahane Jackson- Didn't get any chances Sid Kaul- Okayish record Talking about Hooda, he made in into internationals based on his domestic performances. In IPL, he scored only 781 runs in 80 matches which is under 10 runs every match. Till 2021, he averaged only 16. deepdynamo 1 Link to comment

Hooda was in my IPL 2021 deadwood list but did surprise everyone with his performance in IPL 2021 and then in domestic white ball cricket. A call up to Indian colors justified his improved performance. No longer a deadwood in my opinion. Link to comment

Mesky99
Unfair on shreyas Gopal, had two great seasons with RR, interestingly he has never been the first choice spinner in t20s for Karnataka but somehow did very well for RR some period, biggest dead wood is pat Cummins, when has he ever done well with the ball in ipl? deepdynamo 1 Link to comment
