No chance he is the third best spinner in India. This looks like a "influenced" selection. India should now be grooming the next gen of spinners rather playing a 32 year old journeyman. In place of Jayant, one could have chosen Kuldeep and Saurabh, both of whom can also bat to an extent. Alternatively, Siraj could have played. and if we wanted extra batting, Gill would have been a good pick. Once Axar and/or Sundar are fit, this Jayant experiment should end pronto. Not totally sure but most likely cause he can bat. Nadeem looked really avg last time we saw him in tests. Siraj again won't replace someone like axar/sundar's spot. Idk much about saurabh. Texan Posted March 6, 2022 Share Posted March 6, 2022 I think he was mainly there as an injury cover for Ashwin, but TM decided to play him anyway. He did well with the bat in his first few tests and took a 4-fer in his last innings. I agree he is average though and should not be playing. Kuldeep would have been a better option. Agree. 9,10,11 you pick your best bowlers to complement Ash and Jaddu and dependent on pitch. In India, Pant, Jaddu and Ash are as capable as SENA batsmen in scoring runs.
