Simple. Best bowling and good power hitting unit will win.

Bowling means all 4 bowls have to be quality and should be able to bat deep till 9.

@sscomp32: Zero death bowlers. Excellent powerplay bowling needs to be mentioned. But what is this line-up? 5 left-handers in top 7? The weakest batting unit against spin, your team will suffer in middle overs unless Ishan/Ali is having a field day. Hetty will face mostly pace at 5. Select your keeper and inform the OP.

WK going to be kishan. I thought it was quite obvious. Baz is a livewire in field. Also Arshdeep is in for that death bowling option. And stokes. Weak unit? I doubt. Is not like they are mugs against spin. I beleive in bat deep and defend. Enough bowlers to do that or even while chasing some very good options.

Finally someone who takes criticism positively. Most here are narcissists.

WK was obvious, but you need to mention it.

About spin issue, yes, your team is weak against off-spin in particular, and spin in general. That's understandable as you have 5 left-handers which is wierd to say atleast.

Haven't seen a lot of Hetmyer, so I reserve my judgement over him.

Ok, I am going to look at the teams now. Below will get more marks:

  • A mix of Ind & OS top order (#1-3)
  • Some solid MO batsmen esp. who can play spin well (#4-7)
  • Assuming good batting conditions, a solid mix of 4 pacers (including AR where applicable)
  • A good spinner (If there are two including AR, good)
  • Any innovation or out of the box thinking

Below can (not necessarily) give you demerit points:

  • If you selected 4 good bowlers & 5 good batsmen including WK, connected by a couple of ARs to be your 5-6th bowler
  • On the other extreme, If you picked up a tons of ARs without accounting for 3 quality batsmen & 3 quality bowlers
  • I am not necessarily looking for "big" names. If a team has too many of them, I would assume that you relied more on the "brand"

Here I go ...

  1. @Chakdephatte
  2. @Forever Indian
  3. @JaFanatic
  4. @Lord
  5. @Majestic
  6. @QuarantineTormentino
  7. @Rantzz@SeasonedIPLer
  8. @zakk
  9.  @sscomp32

Now all of you can review/strategize/praise or bash your or another team

My strategy is pretty simple TBH. Bat big and defend.  Or chase when its needed with a very strong MO.

About others, I will see if i have time:)

I enjoyed making team and didn't look at others combination.

@Ankit_sharma03 did an ashwin and uses rules to get lockie :P  Makes him the obvious answer with that bowling .

But its t20, ideally he should win but we all saw that the worst batting SRH won against the best bowling GT :)

Round 1 - the 4 pacers including AR where applicable test

Out of 10 teams, only 4 passed:

  • Team White - Zak, Steyn, Morris, & SDP
  • Team Black - Bumrah, Boult, Thakur, & Stoinis/Pollard
  • Team Dark Yellow - Munaf, Malinga, Morkel, & Russell
  • Team Saffron - Arshdeep, D Chahar, Umesh, & Ben Stokes

Other 6 teams eliminated

From the above 4 teams, let's look at one (or two) good spinner(s):

  • Team White - Harbhajan, Krunal, & Karan Sharma (the last two combine to give 1 spinner)
  • Team Black - Amit Mishra & Sundar
  • Team Dark Yellow - R Chahar & Ashwin
  • Team Saffron - Ojha & Moeen

Combining the pace attack with spinners, Team Saffron is eliminated ... the other 3 teams survive

Posted

Next on to the middle order (#4-7) of the 3 surviving teams:

  • Team White: Pant, SDP, Krunal, & Morris ... will count Pant & SDP as 2 batsmen, and other two combined as 1 = 3 points
  • Team Black: UV, Pollard, Stoinis, & Sundar/Thakur ... will give it 3.5 (0.5 for Sundar or Thakur who ever is sent at #7)
  • Team Dark Yellow: Shaun Marsh, Rayudu, Russell, & Morkel ... will give it 3.5 as well

Team White eliminated ... Other 2 teams survive

Posted

Now on to the top order (#1-3):

Team Black: Shaw, KL, & Bairstow

Team Dark Yellow: GG, Mayank, & Uthappa

This is tough considering IPL

Shaw = Mayank

KL > GG

Uthappa (has an orange cap iirc) = Bairstow (hitting potential)

A narrow margin where KL > GG gives it to Team Black!

Will vote for Team Black

What about captaincy? Plays a huge role in IPL

GG partly selected for his captaincy and not many better captains

Captaincy would have come in if there was a tie ... Team Black has Pollard as captain, who is pretty strong too

To those complaining that I voted myself so everyone should vote themselves, my personal opinion was that I picked a team that I personally found the best team. Had me been given a chance to pick 2-3 teams, I would have picked the second and third best too.

So, it is not that because I picked my team so everyone should pick their own. Ask to yourself which team do you think was the best and pick that team. Let's stick to the subject mentioned here. That is what my school of thought says and I have sticked to that.

@zen many problems with this analysis :-

1.You cannot eliminate teams as such. If four pacers is your criteria, give 2 points to those having it, 1 to those not having it. You are eliminating them without looking at their batting.

2. After 1st round of elimination, you are comparing only spinners. Is having four pacers enough, shouldn't their strength be a criteria?

1. IPL is played in India. 3 pacers+ 2 spinners sounds better than 4 pacers.
