Ruturaj can have success in ODI. He takes time. If the team doesn't have the luxury to offer him 20 balls of tuktuk he won't have a place. CSK allows him to have that luxury. India cannot.  He looked out of place when he tries to go from ball one.  Ishan is good mostly against certain lengths and on low bounce pitches.  

Ishan is getting beaten by pace of these wickets. I don't think he can handle short pitch bowling. Iyer is another guy who cannot play fast bowling.

Rahul can play fast bowling also has ability to play fast as is demanded by t20s in general. But he has cracked the code to stay in Indian team for a long time. Stat padding and average trumps strike rate.

In T20 you need a flexible side that you should be able to match up with opposition. Not everyone is going to be adept against both spin and pace. How many times Sodhi and Santner has tied our famed batting line up in a world T20. They literally killed us with spin. 

 

Sodhi+Santner vs India in world T20  16 overs 61 runs 9 wickets 6.75 ER. It is not good if we are just good against pace.
