The way eng played against NZ looks like it will be difficult to get even a draw. However if somehow Kohli magically gain his form and some youngster like gill perform like he did in aus we might get a draw. Though knowing Macculuam he will never settled for a draw. Bumrah has to be at his best to get rid of root and Bairstow.

If it's one of those 250-300 run type of games, then a 50-60 from him will also be a very good contribution. Since he will play anyway, that's the best we can hope from him.

Australia breached the fortress in 2019...  India could have beaten them in 2018..  Stokes ran through the lower order.  DK's final test.

NZ won last year there

Seamer friendly, Siraj might be better than Prasidh who is more hit the deck pace variety

In IPl it was seen that Siraj's seam position was total mess.  His outs winger isn't happening. He was terrible in short.  Prasidh was a proper menace with the new ball.  He has natural angle to LHB & can move the ball away to RHB as well.  I think Root won't fancy facing him.

Root rises to No. 1 in Test batting rankings;

England batter Joe Root has replaced Australia's Marnus Labuschagne at the top of the ICC men's Test rankings, following his recent run of form.

Root, who recently became only the second England batter to score more than 10,000 Test runs, has been in fine touch during the ongoing home series against New Zealand, producing knocks of 115* at Lord's and 176 in Nottingham. As a result, Root earned 897 rating points, enough to take him above Labuschagne, who had held on to the No.1 spot since December 2021.

So gill will open now, last time anderson n india men SG ball bat pad ke beech men se nikal di thi do baar . Iss baar to duke ball hogi and weather to pata nhin hota

Gill biggest problem in career till has been noticed as fuller ball , he has scored heavy on short ball which those guys dont rely on much .

Will be big test for Gill

Seriously we cnt find 2 openers ffs? Your job is to survive the new ball and blunt it. Gill would be a perfect number 3 or 4 for india.

openers around the world are struggling its just not us, TBH our openers have done well in last year or so

We are in bowling era in test cricket, batting hasnt been easy

also facing anderson in his own backyard has to be one of toughest thing in the history

KL Rahul officially out of England tour due to a groin injury...

Miraculously KL didn't miss any of the 14 IPL games and the injury conveniently come just after IPL.

Hate to see these modern players ( including Bumrah also) are more inclined towards not missing IPL at the cost of playing for India.

No one can time injury (or COVID) … It can happen in any event anytime … No Indian player is going to miss IPL too if fit and selected

For national games, the ideal way is to rotate players more and develop a strong bench strength
