The Count of India!

Sir Cheteshwar Pujara, what a player! Like the Count of Monte Cristo, the Count of India continues to count:

  • Eng 2018 -> carried his bat through in one of the games
  • Aus 2018
  • Aus 2020
  • Eng 2021-2 -> another solid performance in the one off test, this time opening the batting

Indian batsman and their strike rates outside Asia :

Pujara is at the bottom in the list.

Test cricket allows players to play per their style. There is no deduction  for having a low SR. To get points for SR, you have to be like Sehwag for e.g. :dontknow:

In your list, Gavaskar has 2nd lowest SR after Pujara ... Among those with a relatively high SR on your list, only Sehwag bats in the top order (#1-3), others are more or less middle order batsmen (#4-7), usually batting against an relatively old ball and/or avoiding most parts of the first session

With all the batsmen with SR and/or averages, India never won a test series in Aus for e.g. ... It took a Pujara to change things ... That is how players are judged in tests

If you sort by average on the same filters, you'll see consistency when it comes to the bottom of the table.

But then he taught Bumrah, Ashwin, Ishant, Shami, Jadeja & Kuldeep on how to average below 30 in Aus. After all, we never won a series before down under, so it must be that. You never know, he probably used 5th gen warfare by means of sandpaper on them and got two of their best bats out of the series. How's that for unparalleled "impact"!

So glad to see Pujara getting back in touch.

This is why I always thought clubbing him with Rahane is totally unfair.

He had a solid series in Aus. His struggle at home against Eng was a blip which could be fixed.

Hopefully he has 2 3 years more in him to serve India. Hopefully will retire with 8500+ runs and avg above 46-47.

That's just too much of hope. His batting has dipped a lot post 2018 Australia series. Barring occasional 50s, he is not good enough vs pace.

Let's not forget that he devoted some time in county to prep for test cricket ... if he continues to put in hard work, he can get back near his best!

knee troubles will probably not allow that. the knee is a vital part of physiology even in less physically intensive sports like cricket.
