format diff, shami is gun ODI bowler but ODI and t20 are diff formats

actually forgetting format now , current biggest problem is he hasnt played for 3 months . This is like setting someone to fail , playing after 3 months that too in his weakest format

My exact worry...  He hasn't been playing any sort of cricket.   Siraj & Kuldeep Sen (yes even him)  would have been more reasonable picks in the first place.

If Shami plays

then I'd go with this one

7. Hooda (India's Tim David + Maxwell )

8. Axar

9. Bhuvi

10. Shami

11. Arshdeep

How would Rohit or Dravid feel if they were made to play a World Cup with ZERO T20Is in the last 4 months ?

This is unfair on both the player and the team.

Shami should have been played in a few T20Is, especially after Bumrah got injured in England  (  and the TM obviously wants another quick bowler to replace him  )

Shows complete lack of planning regarding pace bowling.

Harshal will not play except if Shami does real bad in first game.

Arshdeep & Bhuvi are not going anywhere.

MCG is expected to be under cloud cover for 1st game with a bit of rain around...  And MCG has become really fast in last 2 years.

harshal selection will depend on next 2 warmup games, 2 more bad games means he can be on bench. Decent games keeps him in hunt

Not to forget the batting depth issue which goes in harshal favour

Even in MCG is quick now its still a big ground , always helps slower ones specially against a team like pakistan where power game is not very consistent

Now it is decided, the following line up will give India the best chance possible:

Rohit

KL

Kohli

SKY

H Pandya

DK (WK)

Axar

Ashwin

B Kumar

M Shami

Arshdeep/Y Chahal

Reasonable batting upto 9.

If you want a further bowling option, you can play Hooda instead of DK, and ask KL to keep, however they have not planned for this so KL won't start keeping.

arshdeep is a lock

it will be

harshal/shami

ashwin/chahal

Because of the batting:

Either Harshal & Chahal will play or Shami & Ashwin (better bowlers) will play.

It is better to choose between Arshdeep/Y Chahal to simplify the combination (play extra seamer/spinner depending on conditions).

Harshal wasn't able to put bat to ball in the Warm Ups.

Reasonable batting when chasing 150.Anything over 170 and this lineup wont chase it if the top 4 fails

Bhai please don't hype Harshal's batting. He is as good as Shami with the bat. I would put more trust in Shami's hitting.

Contrary to comments here I feel Shami the better pick over Siraj. More experience & pedigree in international cricket, was also part of IPL wining side earlier this year.

Siraj recent form was in ODI'S, confusing formats again.

There are a lot of double standards, some players we use ODI'S stats and for some players we don't.

Siraj time will come, but for this tournament Shami the better bet.

Error made was to pick Harshal in the first place., probably both Siraj & Shami should been picked. Covid/Injury issues with Shami & D Chahar did not help.

There will be 2 warm-up games for Shami to get 8 overs under his belt.

It is not numbers. Shami has limited bowling skills required for T20.  With no match practice this is going to be a disaster. With Siraj we could atleast see what his current form is. With no Bumrah India desperately needs a death bowling option. Siraj has done well there. Shami has never shown that in his career.

shami has played 1 t20 in Aus and he got bashed at 11 eco

He has also played 3 match odi series vs Aus in Aus (Nov 2020).   Got smashed at more than 7 per over, as far as I recall.

I am not quite angered about this one. I was anyway sure that he going to be the pick.

His fitness is assessed by professionals and he is declared fit so nothing to worry on that front. He has experience of touring Australia multiple times and played big tournaments like WC2015 there. Should bowl 4 overs in both warm ups.

I get a feeling Rohit and Dravid don't want to throw in inexperienced bowlers there and there is a lot of rebuilding to follow post this WC. So let them play this one how they want.

The same folks who assessed Bumrah fit just to breakdown after 8 overs?
