What's clutch batting?

Playing tuk tuk when quick runs are needed?

Big match player.

Delivered vs Pakistan

Delivered vs England

Success% - 67%

Against top 5-6 teams in ODIS, he takes his average to 40 with bat. That's quality. He has more to his game than power hitting.

Played tuk tuk even when quick runs were needed. There are tons of consolidators in cricket.

He was batting slow v England also and started hitting when India had already fallen too far.

Pandya is a one dimensional hitter so that's his weakness which he tries to compensate by going deep in the crease. He is an all rounder and the best in the country in white ball. If you want to drop consolidators then drop the specialist batsman who are consolidators.

Hence, there is no question for his place in LOIs. He should bat at 5 in T20s because he can get time to set himself in.

Against England, he played a terrific knock. Kohli played slowly in that game.

Against Pakistan, he did his job with the bowl alone. Whatever he did with bat was a plus.

He did well vs one of the minnows too( Zim). He would probably have done well vs Netherlands but unfortunately he didn't had the luxury to bash them as the top order gets that privilege first.

His stats are :-

Bat AVG 25@145

BOwl AVG 27@Econ 8

In the entire T20I history, only Shahid Afridi and Shane Watson can be argued as more successful all rounders than him. There is no one else who is better in this department than Pandya in T20 format. You can check for the names but won't find a genuine A/R.

Deep in the crease so much that he knocked the bails out in the SF costed india 4 runs in the end. Moot point as he and all bowlers sucked in the bowling dept

@Trichromatic, If you are expecting Surya like consistency from Pandya, that is not gonna happen. His role is different in the team. He is playing all rounder role and does the hard job of batting at 5/6. There will be few failures which you can't really question because it is a case with everyone.

Over the last 5 years, he has shown that he belongs to the clutch bracket( with Kohli and can't think of anyone else there). All our bowlers have been smashed in big games and our so have been our main batsman. Even Kohli rejuvenated his clutch gene this tournament only (after 2016).

What clutch innings has he played again. Please remind us that great clutch knock.

What, what sort of stats are these? He's a serial bottler, just marginally better than RGS although his bowling did contribute a lot this time!
