maniac Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 With his temperament are we expecting him to finish close games in T20 where most times that is the role of 5-6-7? this is bs, drop him and give Pant a shot. putrevus and raki05 2
vvvslaxman Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 He is gong to get the backing anyway. That is a given. So use the best way possible. By 10th over slips will be gone. New ball effect will be gone. He can edge a few to boundary through slip. SRT100 1
Lord Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 because he's still better than DK. And maybe just maybe it can force his approach and he can't overthink. Chakdephatte, Clarke, Adorable Fan and 1 other 1 3
Chakdephatte Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 It's not the pressure. It's just him playing like an idiot. He looks in two minds. Middle order can sort it out. He did well in ODI at 5. Has the gears Lord and Clarke 1 1

Still better than DK is not exactly a qualification. Pant is our back keeper and he should take over rightfully. Rahul had a role and he failed, if it’s just “tailunt” that is needed to adjust his position, than Pant is one of the most exciting tailunts to come out of India in the last 3-5 yrs hands down. raki05 1
prudent_kreeda Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 (edited) Because the guy has immense talent and has proven that in international arena. Always back players who have talent and have performed against top bowlers . Ups & Down in form & runs will happen with all . About the quality i think there is no doubt . Not for nothing even foreign legends like Lara, Faf, Fleming agree and even some of the best bowlers like Archer , Rabada. Problem looks more of mindset & nerves for big occasion . Looks shaky when ball moves and also plays lot more dot balls while opening, hence the line of thought he should be used in MO. In any case that is where he came really good in One dayers . Nerves - Need psychological help & nurturing . Too early to discard such talents . I would look it another way - Is he having the game and attacking shots against quality pace (which mostly he will face backend of innings) . Does he have the attacking gear in his game ? Can he get me runs at 50-60% consistency at SR 150+ ? Thats what TM should try to get out of him. He is not the only guy to win matches there are 6 other batters too. But 50-60% consistency will go long way in winning matches along with others' contribution. I presume what has really affected is absence of regular cricket due to Injuries in last couple of seasons . In fact both Pant & KL should play in all future games in this WC Edited November 1, 2022 by prudent_kreeda BacktoCricaddict 1

Pant replaces DK Chahal gets in with either Ashwin retaining or Axar. I prefer Ashwin in these conditons. our problem is middle overs have been let down due to lack of a wicket taker and for all the hate Chahal gets on a good day he can take those important wickets especially in Aussie conditions. Maybe not against Bangladesh but Chahal should play against all gora teams. Against Pak we got our line up right. Not sure if Thakur is in squad or backup but he should be drafted in soon. A fresh Thakur will atleast win you 1-2 games and right now that would be enough. Edited November 1, 2022 by maniac raki05 1

If they take a risk sweeping him good luck. But this ground might suit him. Just in theory.

Can’t have a mentally shot and out of form in a finisher role.
Serpico Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 Pant is no better than KL in T20Is. Guy on bench will always appear better for fans but really, pant is sus against high pace hard length balls. Imo just open with Rohit and Kohli. It will be a slow start but atleast we won't lose wickets in first 3 overs. 40-1 by the end of powerplay is decent base for Sky and Pant, they can be bolder against the spinners Lord 1

He's arguably one of our best players of the hard length ball. He absolutely murders the pull shot against these so called hard length deliveries which are chest high for him. Lord 1
Norman Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 Anyways... It might/can work because there's some sort of a set situation he would come out in and thereby will have that extra clarity on how to proceed with his innings. For example, he can come in at 140/2 in the 15th over knowing there's only one 'acceptable' way for him to pace his knock... that is to play shots and keep the momentum going. Usually, openers don't have that luxury. And with Rahul's negative mindset and piss poor temperament, it just gets worse especially in high pressure games, and the result is in front of everyone to see. vvvslaxman 1

I didn’t account for that either as @Lord pointed out . At this point as poor Hooda is he should be given a go in terms of next in line. Rahul had 3 failures and it is not fair that you are trying him in middle order etc when there are 2 other players waiting for their turn. I don’t rate Hooda and Pant is Pant you never know but on principle they go ahead of Rahul. if he bashes Zim and Bangla that won’t add anything because it will be back to square 1 come the knockouts.
SM2907 Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 (edited) Rebuilding in the middle can be at his pace. Hitting will be easier in the middle for him. He gets no time to think. Edited November 2, 2022 by SM2907
Frustrated Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 For me, he should not be even in the middle order. Rather should be shown the Middle Finger.

Number Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 I don't think it is mental issue. His approach in T20s is to keep looking for slot balls and go over the 30 yard circle. But neither the conditions nor the bowling in WC so far have been conducive for that kind of style. Should rather play in ODI style till first 6 overs. Dab and run for singles, keep looking for drives and cuts through gaps by playing close to the body. nevada 1
