SKY vs ABD in T20 Internationals

we have seen ABD smash club level bowlers time and again and falter in critical matches.. if SKY does well in semis.. and for next 1/2 years where does it put him among T20 greats.. he has been doing unimaginable stuff that likes of KLR rohit kohli etc can only dream of.. soft runs? nobody said this to ABD when he scored those odi hundreds against club level bowlers of west indies

Can't remember ABD Or anyone else play the innings that SKY played in Perth. Incredible hitting in adverse conditions. We a know what he can do when conditions don't favor bowlers

His only weakness is spin.

sky will surely inspire the next gen of cricketers in playing 360..  when ex players, analysts are not good enough to comment on T20 format and more often than not give wrong advices,  good to see a player prove them wrong emphatically and set a path for youngsters

Cricket is more than stats.

 

ABDV is regarded as one of the all time great batter in T20s too due to the legacy he created.

 

Buttler and Surya have followed his footstep and achieved a lot in this format. Guys like Baby AB and numerous other cricketers all look at ABD when it comes to the King of 360 degree cricket.

You can basically think of AB de Villiers in T20s as the WC Grace, Victor Trumpet and Ranjit singhji of cricket.

 

Statistics don't matter. He has a legacy in that format too, through IPL yes but the kind of cricket he played shaped it for everyone to follow around the world.

no, Ian harvey was the WG grace of T20 cricket. one of the very first to score at 30+ avg and 150+ SR. most of you bacchas won't remember it though

ABDV's legacy is ODIs, 3 times winner of ODI cricketer of the year, same as Virat. SKY will obviously have better T20 numbers than ABD but he'll do really well to have an overall stature like AB.

I don't think even Australian's remember him , despite of all the hype he just failed get going as a batsman, his bowling was also nothing much to write about.
James Hopes was a much better utility player than him.

I don't know about others but I am very well aware of Ian Harvey and his all round exploits.

 

However, coming to the topic, T20s was in its early days even during ABD's career too and the kind of cricket he played really sets it up for the guys to follow and have a great career. That's his impact and legacy in this format which goes way beyond stats. It doesn't make him one of the greatest in this performance but he does have a legacy as far as this format is concerned.

there were players who started T20 around the same time or earlier than ABD and did better. symonds is another that comes to mind.

 

since the thread is ABD vs SKY in T20Is, I am going to give it to SKY here for now. Not doubting ABD's ability, but he did underachieve in T20 intl's to some degree

true, but I was referring to his T20 club exploits not in intl's. he was one of the first to take a high-risk high-reward game in t20s.

SKY in World tournament seems to be going the ABD way..1-2 performance followed by multiple failures.
