Theres a lot of development that happens after the u19 days and most fall by the way side. Btw Nagarkoti was always overrated, he didnt have a lot going for him. He wasn't overrated...had he been handled carefully and provided as much chance as useless Avesh and Harshal he would have been more successful than useless trundler we tried. It is Biology 101 and Physics 101. Biology, because of Fast Twitch Muscles and Physics because of long arms. Anyway back to the topic. Bhuvi, Shami, Umesh and Bumrah are better than Arshdeep. He is having a good tournament but that is all. Semi final will tell how good he is.
figo6762 Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Not sure what Porel and nagarkoti have done … Porel & Mavi played India a tours .. Mavi doesn’t add variety to the attack looks more of shami replacement .

Yeah they were, but actually original comment was that all our top pacers were under 6 feet (Zak, Kapil, Shami, Umesh, Bumrah). Srinath was missing there, as he was our top pacer between 1993-1998 and was also tall, so pointing out the exception.

R!TTER Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Well you can't really compare the best ever pacer to our lot, imagine him in Eng with the Dukes that Clouderson enjoys - he'd easily end with 700-800 wickets if he played half his tests in Eng AKane 1

India was looking for death bowling specialist and he fit the bill. Being a leftie further further helped his cause. A bit of luck and timing. With Bumrah out, it ws an automatic entrance in to the team. Harshal, Avesh and others were going for runs in the death overs. It did surprise me that Arshdeep got into the team after IPL exploits go as far as selectors are concerned but given Ironically, it's his opening the bowling that's been more effective so far. Death bowling in the WC has been average. He had a couple of IPL seasons under his belt so the selectors and think tank felt to go with safer option than someone just in their first season. Porel no IPL exposure. Nagarkoti injuries, height Mavi, can swing upfront, a bit erratic and can go for runs, but height and injuries for me. IMO, Porel has some potential in the longer formats. Too many infront of him though If Mohsin had a couple of seasons experience and was injury free then I reckon he would have been in the team as well. Leftie, good pace, and can bat a bit as well. Too bad timing and injuries if I was the Chief of Selectors- i would have picked Khaleel and Mohsin ahead of Arshdeep. if Mohsin was injured then I would have picked Khaleel, Arshdeep was mythird choice leftie- I still believe that Khaleel and Mohsin would have also performed as good as Arshdeep if selected. I would have picked SIRAJ ahead of Harshal Patel for Sure. if any of my other selectors did not support me in picking Siraj , then I would have picked Umran, Kuldeep Sen and even Prasidh ahead of Harshal. Siraj>umran>Prasidh>Kuldeep Sen >>>Harshal Patel. Avesh Khan Proved that he has declined by bowling at 130 to 138 K and screaming his Lungs out - so I would not have considered him. But Yes with Bumrah Out , I would have Picked Shammi and Bhuvi as these two are trusted India pacers who have been leading India attack. But i was screaming my Lungs Out that 3 spinners is a wrong decision- ashwin and Axar are playing but they have been under bowled. assuming Mohsin and prasidh are injured - my attack would have been Shammi, Siraj , Bhuvi, Khaleel, Umran( ahead of arshdeep ) and Hardik. Now they are playing a Spinner ahead of Harshal as they are not sure about Harshal even on a pacy track. Khaleel being a left armer would have played and bhuvi n Shammi too, even Siraj/Umran may be on bench mostly but one of them would get a chance in one of the games.

tapandrun Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Akshdeep was at right place at right time. PKXI picked him and he got to play matches in IPL and has improved his skill over the years. Ind was looking for a new Left arm fast bowler after trying Khaleel and others. Akshdeep was the only choice left for Ind team by then and since then he has been decent(at times looked better than Bhuvi). Mavi and Kamlesh were mostly injured post that U19 wc and there has been very less to no improvement in their skill set. Moreover Mavi has lost the zip and pace and Kamlesh looked like a bad version of Agarkar
