How did Arshdeep surge ahead of Mavi/Nagarkoti/Ishan Porel

Bishop was talking about it during Zimbabwe.  Is it is a case of them not working hard enough or injuries? someone who was not even heard of during under-19 world cup has suddenly surged ahead of the other guys.  I understand other countries introduce them early because they had to. Shoriful is from the same batch as Kartik Tyagi. He has already helped BD win a Test match in NZ.  Why are our under-19 bowlers not breaking the door down which is what Dravid said about Arshdeep who incidentally was the coach of his under-19 side that won the world cup.

Arshdeep was a net bowler last year.  That is a remarkable progress. But i can't help but ask why not others?

Arshdeep came up because

1) he is a leftie

2) bowled well in death during IPL

First 2 point itself made him a rare commodity and then

3) able to prevent injury at the right time.

Nagarkoti was a mess done by NCA when he remain injured for 2 straight years, Mavi lost his zip as well post injury.

Tyagi bowled some sensational spells in IPL but then got injured at wrong time..Sushant & Akash are not even picked by their state teams.

I've always heard this a lot, what are we doing about this? Surely the incompetent chumps over there ought to be fired by now!

U19 is a poor standard of cricket and most of the u19 players around the world barely have successful first class careers. Theres a lot of development that happens after the u19 days and most fall by the way side.

Btw Nagarkoti was always overrated, he didnt have a lot going for him.

One question, whom amongst the Indian fast bowlers do you rate ?

Sarkari naukri hai, from NCA they will move to some state association. Was anyone fired for Bumrah's mishandling ?

Mental toughness and not overawed by big stage or big names in the opposition. Dude was advising Rabada how to bowl in the IPL!

Definitely attitude is one thing that was mentioned when the current team management talked about Arshdeep. Eager to learn.

The ones playing are all very good including Bumrah.

siraj from the ones not playing has the most potential. Dont rate Avesh, Harshal.

The most important thing is ability to move the ball in good areas. No matter what pace you bowl, you must learn the skill to swing the new ball even if you bowl at 90 mph. You need both skills ability to swing with the new ball and hit the deck with older ball. Arshdeep too needs to develop the second aspect but he does have first aspect which puts him in a good space because swing can always get you wickets early on.

Yes. Both Nagarkoti and Mavi  bowl mostly straight deliveries.

Arshdeep got into the team for death bowling in the IPL.  India was looking for death bowling specialist and he fit the bill. Being a leftie further further helped his cause. A bit of luck and timing. With Bumrah out, it ws an automatic entrance in to the team. Harshal, Avesh and others were going for runs in the death overs.  It did surprise me that Arshdeep got into the team after IPL exploits go as far as selectors  are concerned but given Ironically, it's his opening the bowling that's been more effective so far. Death bowling in the WC has been average.  He had a couple of IPL seasons under his belt so the selectors and think tank felt to go with safer option than someone just in their first season.

Porel no IPL exposure.
Nagarkoti injuries, height

Mavi, can swing upfront, a bit erratic and can go for runs, but height and injuries for me.

IMO, Porel has some potential in the longer formats.  Too many infront of him though

If Mohsin had a couple of seasons experience and was injury free then I reckon he would have been in the team as well.  Leftie, good pace, and can bat a bit as well. Too bad timing and injuries

Not all tall guys can be fast. But to be a good fast guy you have to be tall. Physics 101.

All our top pacers have been under 6 feet, kapil, bumrah, shami, umesh(one of the best test pacers we have produced in indian conditions).

Kapil is either 6'1" or just over 6' feet.  Met him a few years back.
