Kohli in T20's has become what Dhoni became in ODIs.

Kohli has been a terrible player of spin in the last couple of years in T20's. While he strikes at a reasonable rate of 139 against pace in all T20's , his strike rate against spin is only 109.

This is reminiscent of MS Dhoni (2012 onwards). Dhoni had a pathetic strike rate of 63.5 against spin in ODIs from 2012 onwards whereas he struck at about a reasonably healthy 98 against pace even from 2012 - 2019.

On slow, turgid Caribbean wickets, this guy will lose us matches with his inability against spin.

I have said in another thread, spinners now a days don't give any flight to the ball. They dart at high pace in stumps line with minimal turn. Unless you can sweep them you can't dominate them and most of our old time batsmen are allergic to sweep shot.

Considering how aweful Rohit and Kela hv been for so long, it appears as if Kohli's batting should be least of our concerns for now.   Atleast he single handedly won us a match vs poyz which looked almost unachievable.  Don't remember any such knock from these pathetic openers in any multi nation tournament, despite them getting the best conditions in PP with only 2 fielders outside the circle.  Not defending Kohli.  Of course he should hv scored faster vs Eng. But our openers playing test match during PP is the root cause of all problems.

Yes I agree. He did well in this world T20 which we appreciate but this should be it. Doing well this tournament doesn't mean he should get a free license to play one more WT20 tournament. Need to quit and focus on longer formats.

How come our spinners get carted around like club level bowlers? Why can't they also spear it in at high pace and suffocate the batsmen?

Sweep,  reverse sweeps,  laps,  switch hits...  Make a darter's life tough.

Indians & Pakistanis both don't do that enough.

But at least Pak batsmen play conventional sweeps from time to time

Its not just spear at high pace by spinners of other nations . There are skillsets too which are required for T20 and they have worked hard to improve in those area.

Look at Santner , 2-3 years back he was ordinary but now he uses change in pace , width , ability to watch batsmen's  move and bowl accordingly. He will just deny big hits and then make them go for risky shots. The same Hales & Buttler could not do much against him even in PP in this WC.

Shadab - Lot of  rev and accuracy plus bounce and change of pace .  almost till 2019 he was average .

Zampa -another bowler now does very well in short format also Adil .

We also know what tricks Theekshana, Hasaranga, Rashid Khan , Mujib  possess .

Even very average guy like Sodhi is performing better .

It points to 2 things -

1. Indian spinners are where they were when they first played for India, no improvement in T20 skills and new skills added .

 2. Indian batsmen allow spinners of opposition to bowl well by not attacking intelligently & allowing them to bowl in their comfort zone. If you cannot take too many risks against say rashid khan , hasaranga , Santner then take 1 & 2 almost every ball and take risk on 1-2 balls by trying to disrupt his length. You will get 1 or 2 hittable balls if you show intent to hit.

A yorker by a spinner is a very good option in T20 if bowled sparingly at crucial stage and i think with practice anyone can develop that ball. Have we seen any indian spinner do that ? Last i saw was Bhajji.

When you have spinners like Ashwin who bowl just to stop the flow of runs. In t20s most team play leg spinners who bowl attacking line and length and go for wickets.

India face a strange dilemma if they pick chahal the batting goes weak.

Hales - Sweep towards tiny boundary

Ryan Burl - effective reverse sweep

Our spinners still rely a lot on turn on offer from pitch. If it is not there, they become very hittable from over long off to long on range.

Imad Wasim who isn't playing for Pakistan is the best PP spinner in the world at the moment. Bowls at 105 kmph which allows batsmen no time to come down the track and is always in the stumps so bowled/lbw chances are always there.

That's wrong. You can't sweep darts on the stumps. What Indian batsmen do is predetermined front foot movement against spin that limits their stroke choices while the best way is to either come down the track to the pitch of the ball or goes back and alter the length.

Correct.

Anyone in here thinking he wont be in the 2026 WC squad is dreaming.

He will stat pad his scores and carefully select which bilateral tournaments to feature in.

By 2026, Kohli may be closer to grandpa.

And what's his strike rate against pace? From 0-15 and 16-20 overs. I guess he is able to coverup for his lack of runs against spin.
