Which means greatest wicketkeeper of all time. Nice article by Sid Monga below providing some context on his extraordinary numbers..

He is already the greatest Indian WK batsmen of all time and if we discount Sangakkara, the greatest from the sub-continent as well. He might very well end up overtaking Gilchrist if he continues his current form. Remember 21 of his 32 tests have been in SENA, so it's very likely his average can reach 50+, the more he plays in the sub-continent

His 2nd inns Century in Cape Town was the the best I ever saw from a Indian player...  Such a Shame we lost that decider.  It would have surpassed his Gabba inns.

Even Kohli played like a timid Tailender there I remember.

Yes that was a stunning innings and the ease with which he batted compared to other Indian batsmen was astonishing. Pity India's tail just pathetically collapsed without providing any support

Goat term is being loosely thrown around.. I guess the author is either a PR agent or lying casually or has not seen other keepers from different generations.. Pant is very good and will go the all time great level if he continues on this pat for another 4-5 years

Not sure about that but take him out and batting is a joke.

Iyer has been doing well at home. And Jaddu when fit

Who has been better than Pant, as a Batsman cum Keeper package, in Test matches  ????

He almost always bats well with his team in trouble. And not just bats well but shifts the pressure from India to the opposition team. And play 80+ run innings rather frequently to win tests against big teams under pressure.

His keeping has improved a lot too.

A complete package in test matches.

Gilly had the luxury of coming in after awesome performances from their top 6. And he did not have to bat as a pure batsman at 5 or 6.

Exactly. Not many rescue acts needed from him. Mainly was used to consolidate a strong position or declaration batting.

I remember one match vs India where Aus were 99 for 6 but then Gilly and Hayden took Aus to 350+ in a test match.

Gilly was still a generational player because his average was in 50s for a while before it went down in later part. Pant has long way to go because when he will have loss of form, that average will go down.
