Shardul Thakur seems pissed after Unadkat picked ahead of him

Kuldeep run through bangladesh side on a similar track (slow turner) in the first test. He was the only one getting bounce on it.

What's the point of replacing him with Unadkat?

Let's say we have a peak kohli and for a certain match we need a good batsman of spin, will you replace kohli with Mayank Agarwal? You will find someone else who is replaceable because kohli was anyway doing great job.

What's the point of replacing someone who is killing it in a particular track with someone who can (probably) do well on that track. You are replacing a certainty with a probability.

I do not agree with the Unadkat pick ahead of Kuldeep - just in case that needed clarifying...

I have serious objections to either of Shardul or Unadkat playing as the 1st, 2nd or 3rd pacer.

Only one of them can play as the 4th pacer and No.8 batsman in tests outside Asia, as we are looking for a bowling allrounder in that slot.

Problem with this TM is that they often weaken the overall bowling for bringing in batting ability till 9 or for a few overs of swing upfront.

Shardul was there in the test match pacer pool anyway and now Unadkat comes in. I won't be surprised if we see both of them playing together in tests outside Asia, if Bumrah or Shami are missing. And this will reduce our pace bowling quality a lot.

This is the problem with Unadkat playing. Otherwise, he could be used at No.8 in Australia, SA and WI as he is more bouncy than Shardul and Shardul in England and NZ as he is a better swing bowler.

Thakur was the best bowler in the series deciding test in SA where his more famous counter parts, Bumrah ,Shami and  did not even show up.Jaidev does not bring anything more to the table for him to be replaced in any conditions.

He has already played the most important role in one of the most famous wins in Indian history.

I suspect harshal and deepak chahar will also play tests soon due to their batting ability. and then rishi dhawan and dhawal kulkarni.

and then @express bowling will have a fit ;)

I don't think Deepak chahar has any real motivation to play international T20 let alone Tests. He is happy with his IPL mult crore contracts. Look at Bhuvi. Never talked about Tests. Atleast Undakutter wanted to make red ball proud lol

The trouble is they also do well in domestic,so stats back them up.

Correct. Its their "Get of Jail Free" card whenever challenged on the selections.

To be honest, we dont either of them regardless of conditions, if and only if the best quality batsmen were picked, we wouldnt have a need for a bowling all rounder.

The need for one is a result of having HItman, KL, Pujara and Kohli in the one team and none of them generally score consistently over the last two years.

Lots of top domestic performers never get picked.

Which is why I suspect Unadkat has found some "useful connection" at the top level.

Unadkat is better suited than Thakur for these pitches, but Kuldeep anyway was best choice

by far the better choice.
