Pant avg 45 in last 14 ODIs with a strike rate of 109. His ODI performance has been good. Not sure why he was dropped.

 

Also, they made Pandya Vice captain in ODI. Will he bowl 10 overs?

I like the T20 squad but Hardik won't bowl his 4 overs now for sure. He bought Hooda to do that. He might bowl an over or 2. As a captain, he would like to prolong his career.

I don't see much problem with Pant being dropped from this series. 

 

If you look at India's schedule, no player will be able to play all formats regularly. It is just too much to ask considering how India's schedule is. It is not same as Pakistan 's schedule where Babar and Rizwan can play all matches.

 

This is why they have removed Kohli, KL and Rohit from T20Is, Pant and Iyer from T20s. Pant is playing all formats so he is probably given a bit more break to work on his fitness and in the process, they would like to see a bit of Surya also at 5. There is so much cricket these guys play that they don't have time to feel low about getting dropped in one series in one format.

 

My only concern with these selections is the T20I bowling options that are picked. These are the guys they are going to back now?

Is there a condition that vice captain needs to bowl 10 overs?
