We won comfortably but batting is a big concern, as we continue to rely on Rohit and the bowlers for runs. Besides Rohit, Gill is the only batsman who can keep the scoreboard ticking without much fuss. And he has shown the skill to take charge of the entire innings. But KL is untouchable, for whatever reason and will keep Gill out. We desperately need a batsman to be niggled out to get Gill in.

Indore is the smallest ground and flattest of pitches. Worlds first double hundred in limited overs cricket was scored here by tendulkar. Ajinkya rahanes highest score was here.. so a flat pitch.. but now SOS has gone to Pitch curators and the pitch will now be left to dry and unwatered and soon a flat pancake will become afghan tandoori roti..

It must be getting on for 10 years now that touring Test teams have been arriving in India expecting to have to combat R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja on pitches that will more than likely turn a bit. No-one’s really worked it out yet.

10 years, man! 10 years! And no-one’s worked it out. And probably no-one ever will work it out. Facing R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja on pitches that will more than likely turn a bit is essentially unworkoutable. 

Ashwin has taken 320 Test wickets in India at 20.88. Jadeja has taken 179 at 20.30.

“Oh yeah, well, batting’s just a lottery on those pitches,” argue the knobheads. 

Yet somehow Ashwin averages 28.85 with the bat on those same pitches and Jadeja averages 42.41.

It’s not the pitches. It’s the bowling. 

Just think about what these guys are currently doing. They are not merely saying, “I am about to punch you in the mouth,” and then somehow punching you in the mouth without you being able to dodge it. They are doing more than that. 

 

R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are giving you a big, long, protracted presentation about the exact way in which they are going to punch you in the mouth. They’re showing slides, video clips, diagrams. They’re giving you tips on what to look out for. Then they’re saying, “Brace yourself. I’m going to punch you in the mouth right now this exact second.” And then they’re punching you in the mouth and you’re completely failing to avoid it.

It’s been 10 years. Every team turns up with more video footage than they could ever possibly watch. They have team meetings. They practise. In the case of Australia, they even recruit bowlalike net bowlers to familiarise themselves with what are surely already just about the most familiar bowling actions they’ll ever encounter.

And then R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja punch them in the mouth.

Instead of doing whats best for the country, they want to do whats best for an individual, that is KL.

 

He should be dropped but wont. India will wait to fail before making changes.

 

I just pray he doesnt score a 50 or 100 because I can imagine it will be painful and slow to watch and involve a dropped chance here and there.

Whats even worse, if he scores a 50 or 100, he will secure his place for another 12 months.

Fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat will be available to captain Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy final against Bengal starting on February 16 in Kolkata, after he was released from the India squad for the second Test against Australia starting on February 17.

It is understood that Unadkat was keen to play the Ranji Trophy final and initiated the request with the Indian team management before the selectors approved his release.

Saurashtra qualified for the Ranji Trophy final on Sunday by beating Karnataka by four wickets in the semi-final in Bengaluru. Bengal won the other semi-final against Madhya Pradesh by 306 runs.

Unadkat's availability is a boost to Saurashtra's prospects in the final, as they aim for their second title after winning their first in the 2019-20 season. Though he has played just three matches this Ranji Trophy season, Unadkat led the side in all those fixtures and took 17 wickets at an average of 13.64.

His best performance came in the group match against Delhi, when he took a hat-trick in the first over of the match on his way to career-best innings figures of 8 for 39. He also scored 70 in that game. Unadkat did not play any of the knockouts for Saurashtra, who were led by Arpit Vasavada in the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

After making his Test comeback in Bangladesh in December last year following a gap of 12 years, Unadkat was part of India's Test squad for the first two Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He did not feature in the XI in the first Test of the series in Nagpur, which India won by an innings and 132 runs inside three days. The second Test will be played in Delhi between February 17 and 21, and India are expected to field an unchanged bowling attack comprising R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.

Either jaydev is actually very good or he just can't handle pressure in Internaitonal level. How is he this good in domestics?

The only change I would seriously consider is if the pitch is 100% guaranteed to be slow, low turner from Ball 1.

 

Replace either Siraj or Shami with Kuldeep. India becomes a stronger bowling and batting unit as default. Esp if Kuldeep replaces Siraj.

 

India can open their bowling attack then with one pace bowler and Ashwin.

Ashwin is formidable against left hand batsmen and Warner. In fact its stupid to not open the bowling with Ashwin.

We should move Jadeja,  Ashwin  and Axar to 3 , 4 and 5 in the batting order.

 

Kohli and KL can be 10 and 11.

I like Kuldeep a lot.

 

But still want 2 pacers to play as reverse swing plays a vital part on many slow and abrasive pitches.
